Different Versions of Content - zzip7 - 2024-05-05

I recently migrated from Plex to Jellyfin, and overall I'm really impressed and wish I'd made the switch a long time ago. One major issue I encountered however relates to how multiple version of the same show or movie are handled.

I was familiar with Plex's method where the movie/show would only appear once and the most suitable quality/bitrate would play based on the client. Plex also had a method to pre-transcode multiple versions at other bitrates when desired.

Is it possible to accomplish this with Jellyfin? For now I see multiple instances of the same content without a very obviousway to tell the difference between them. Does anyone know if a plugin or setting that would automatically recognize that the content is the same based on metadata and show them as a single entry in the library? It is a bit of an annoyance to have the same movie several times in the library.

Currently Jellyfin natively supports multiple versions of MOVIES. In the upcoming 10.9 Jellyfin will add that support for shows.

You CAN have versions of a show now, but it doesn't work the same as Movies until 10.9 is released.
