Direct Links - GentleRV - 2024-05-08

The future request is to make possible a link is created or generated to address a movie or mp3 to acces direct from a browser without login credentials.
Maybe a special user has be created to make this possible but it would be great to show my friends a certain movie without guiding them thru the large amount of information

This is a huge security issue and, IMO, out of scope for Jellyfin. If you want to provide unauthenticated direct access to files, you can already do that with most http server like apache and nginx.

RE: Direct Links - Mel_Gibson_Real - 2024-05-10

I think he means, a link that would bring someone to the video player for a particular movie without the need to make an account or sign in.

For example Im watching a show, I want one of my friend to check it out, but he doesnt have access to it though his streaming services. "I gotcha bro", I send him a link that lets him watch it through jellyfins webpage player without having to make an account, and the link is just for that particular movie or show.

I understand. That this is possible, but involves sharing your API key which is included in the URL when you click on "Share" or "Download" for an episode or movie. Obviously not secure to openly share your user's/sessions API key since it could, hypothetically, be used to bypass the login prompt.

If you do this, make sure the account you are using does not have delete permissions.

Trying the way you suggested I ended up with still see the login screen and the link to the movie is gone.
On my server no name or password is needed only click on the square to get permission

This is a link I like to share https://films.wetterstof.nl/web/index.html#!/details?id=46e2712f16ea54204c18444e21da7b87&serverId=7865e42d811047718d35a575863da30a
But end up as above mentioned

Please make it possible to show for others using a link, bypassing all security if is chosen to share the move and copy the link

Thanks

You'd have to include a valid API key in the link. I don't believe that Jellyfin will automatically put one in the URL it creates in the share link.

Can this be aa request to make in future releases?
