Both folders the same? - c0ldfuyr3 - 2024-05-15

If I set both of these to the same folder, it just lists the same stuff in both, except it's even worse, in Movies it will show "S20:E0 Movie Name" and show "Movie Name" in TV Shows...

Why can't it figure out which is which? Is this normal?

This is the expected behavior from an improper folder structure. You need to keep shows and movies in separate folders and point the library to the appropriate folder.

Why does the user need to keep their media in separate folders? Who said it is improper to keep all of your media in a single folder? That would make Jellyfin the only media management tool in existence to require users to do that. It's not normal to put TV shows and movies in different folders, they are both types of visual media. Hence the existence of a single Videos folder in almost every OS.

You could have all your media in a single folder, but you still will need multiple sub-folders to separate shows and movies. Jellyfin needs to know what is a show and what is a movie.

The Jellyfin devs could have made it work the other way around where you mix everything together, but then you'll have to go video by video telling Jellyfin what is a show or movie.

Jellyfin is not a media management tool. It is a media streaming platform. Even before I used Jellyfin I kept movies and shows separate.
