Issues with Jellyfin on FireTV Stick - 5.1 Audio Only Plays in Stereo - Bl4nk24 - 2024-05-21

Hi everyone,

I'm facing a problem with my Jellyfin setup and hoping someone here might be able to help. I host my own Jellyfin server and have been enjoying it for the most part. However, I've encountered an issue with audio playback.

When I watch a movie through my browser, the audio is in 5.1 surround sound as expected. But when I watch the same movie using the Jellyfin app on my FireTV Stick, it only plays in stereo.

I've tried the following troubleshooting steps so far:
  • Checked the audio settings on my FireTV Stick to ensure Dolby Digital Plus is enabled.
  • Reviewed the audio settings within the Jellyfin app on the FireTV Stick.
  • Verified the transcoding settings in Jellyfin to ensure it supports multi-channel audio.
  • Ensured Direct Play and Direct Stream are being used instead of transcoding.
  • Confirmed that the audio format of the movie is supported by my FireTV Stick and connected audio receiver.
  • Made sure the FireTV Stick is correctly connected to my AV receiver via HDMI, which can handle 5.1 audio formats.
Despite these efforts, the issue persists. Has anyone else encountered this problem or have any suggestions on what else I could try?

Thanks in advance for your help!

On the firestick can you try setting the preferred player to libVLC?

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion. I've already tried setting the preferred player to libVLC, as the other player does not work and only returns an error. Unfortunately, the issue with the 5.1 audio still persists. Any other ideas?
