Where to find watched file data? - Huecuva - 2024-05-23

Due to reasons that can be found in my thread on the Troubleshooting board, I may need to simply reinstall my Debian OS with a fresh install of Bookworm and set my server back up from scratch. If I do this, it would be great if I could copy a file or something so that my new Jellyfin install could have all the red check marks on stuff I've already watched. Is there a way to do that?

One way is to setup Trakt plugin, let it sync to trakt then after you get it set back up, set trakt plugin back up on the new system and resync. That works best for me. I think the actual info isin the db files, which you could backup and then restore, also. I think Trakt is the best way, imo.

Thanks, I'll check that out.

So it looks like in order to use Trakt you need to make an account on their website or log in with Facebook or Google? I really don't want to have to do that. I don't know why the plugin can't just backup the data to my network drive where all my media is. Does anyone know where the db files are that I can back up manually?

IIRC, your setup was directly installed in a VM, correct? In that case just copy the entire contents of /var/lib/jellyfin and /etc/jellyfin to the new VM. Reset the ownership with "sudo chown -R jellyfin: /var/lib/jellyfin /etc/jellyfin" and it should be like nothing happened. Watch status is stored in the database. Don't recall if it is library.db or jellyfin.db.

Perfect, thank you. I managed to get my current server fixed, but I will certainly keep this in mind whenever i decide to upgrade to Debian 12.
