Audo/Video sync issue - zkirkpatrick - 2024-05-28

I am trying to play 720p rips of Jeopardy from a Windows x64 installation of Jellyfin (v10.8.13).  These files lose audio/video sync within the first minute of playback.  I used to be able to acquire HDTV (lower quality) rips of these files which played perfectly, but don't seem to be available anymore.  I'm sure that Jellyfin supports these higher quality files, but are likely being encoded in such a way that my server doesn't like it.[/color]

I've played with some of the settings in the Roku app referring to various playback and audio settings, but cant seem to bingo one to help.

Windows x64
Jellyfin 10.8.13
Roku playback
Filetype: MKV
File details: x264.AC3
File Resolution: 720p
File size: ~400mb

Have you tried playing the videos in a desktop app like MPC-BE or VLC? Your videos are direct playing so it isn't some issue with transcoding.

If I play them locally on the same PC that they are stored on, there is no issue. So the files are good.

Is that what you're recommending or am I misunderstanding?

I was just making sure the problem wasn't the files themselves.

Have you only tried to play these files on a Roku? If so, can you try in a browser or Jellyfin Media Player? I'm trying to determine if the problem is Jellyfin, in general, or Jellyfin for Roku.

I played them via the jellyfin browser page on the same PC the files are located on and it worked perfectly.  Also just tried the jellyfin android app and it also played flawlessly.

Looks like this is a possible known issue for the Roku app.

Care to comment and provide as much info about your video's codecs and your setup?

I also just tried a few other files. These files were all movie files this time as opposed to short tv shows, so much larger file sizes. These are both higher and lower quality files and they all play without sync issues.

Reviewing my own screenshots, it looks like the only common difference is the framerate. Could this be it? If so, what would good settings to use with VLC to convert?

I converted one of my Jeopardy files to H264.MP4 at 23.97fps and it looks and works great. Had no idea that Roku didn't support 60fps. Thanks for walking me to this solution TDP(Roberts?)!
