Remove show from Up Next that actually works few months - macnab - 2024-06-18

Hi

Show xxx. Just finished watching Season1. I will watch Season 2 in a few months, in the meantime I will watch other stuff.

So Season 2 Episode 1 must disappear from Up Next. (In fact, for the moment, Jellyfin must forget that I have ever watched the show.)

If I mark Season 2 as watched it goes, but then I must make a note somewhere that actually I haven't watched Season 2.

I f I mark it as watched and then immediately mark it as unwatched (as suggested by some posts) it goes back to Up Next.

If I mark it as watched, reboot, mark it as unwatched Lo and Behold, it is in Up Next again.

Is there a way to tell Jellyfin "I, and only I,  will tell you when I want to watch this show again so in the meantime SHUT UP ABOUT IT."

Or do we really have to have 70 shows in Up Next and have some sort of system to remember which 5 we are currently watching?

This is more of a feature request, so the appropriate place to ask is here: https://features.jellyfin.org/

Couple ways to go about your issue however:
  1. Make playlists to hold shows or movies that you currently want to watch. Maybe collections could also work here.
  2. Jellyfin will not show episodes in "next up" if later episodes have been marked as watched. So just mark the last episode of each season as watched that you want to save for later. Just make sure to unmark each last episode when you want it to appear again in up next.

You could remove Next up entirely.  Or reduce the number of days a show stays in next up.  Settings > Home and Settings > Display.

Ah, marking last episode as watched is a good option because I can see from the other episodes that is in fact not watched.
