"A fatal error was encountered in the HLS stream" - SNChalmers - 2024-06-19

Hi!

My Jellyfin server stopped working roughly a month ago and I'm not sure why. Presumably it has to do with the new version, but I tried rolling back to 10.8 through Portainer and that didn't help. I'll give as many details as I can, but I'm not great at this stuff so your patience is greatly appreciated.

The issue is that while it can see all my media, it can't play it back. The error is in the title; Playback Error, A fatal error was encountered in the HLS stream. I've already tried apt update, everything is up to date. Jellyfin is using ffmpeg version 5.1.4. There's nothing wrong with the files, I can access them over the network and play them using VLC. The error persists across all platforms. I've tried disabling hardware acceleration, to no avail. Jellyfin is running in Docker, managed with Portainer. Currently installed version is 10.9.6. Debian 11, version 6.1.0-0.deb11.21-amd64.

I can post any logs that may be helpful, though there's tons of them and I'm not sure which are helpful so I haven't included any here.

Thanks again for any help Smiling-face

Can you share your jellyfin and ffmpeg logs via pastebin?

RE: "A fatal error was encountered in the HLS stream" - SNChalmers - 2024-06-22

These are ffmpeg logs all generated right at the time of a failed stream https://pastebin.com/XiCQaBvd https://pastebin.com/7S3iriHk https://pastebin.com/V4T4vtG5 https://pastebin.com/21WBtBck https://pastebin.com/V7Z6ftHS

The jellyfin log is too large for pastebin lol, this ones an excerpt from the top of the log file https://pastebin.com/c3FQnHZX and this one from the bottom, which looks more relevant https://pastebin.com/TCSXti52.

Again thank you very much, let me know if I can provide anything else useful!

Looks like of yours disks is full. How many disks do you have you in system? Is Jellyfin running on the same disk that your media is stored on?

You're right, I hadn't noticed that, freeing some space fixed it! I hadn't thought that would be an issue, Jellyfin is running off of an SSD and I have a raid array for all my media storage, and it puts the transcodes on the SSD, but I guess it doesn't like having the raid array at literally 0% capacity lol. Thank you so much man, you're a lifesaver!

I just started having the exact same error today. Restarting the server and rebooting the computer did not help. Unlike the OP above, I do not have anywhere near full storage. OS and Jellyfin are on a 1TB ssd with about 90% unused, media is spread across two 2TB and one 4TB drives, each roughly 60% full.
Any advice for me?

The logs look fine. What browser are you using?

RE: "A fatal error was encountered in the HLS stream" - JustAnotherDude - 2024-06-24

Firefox

Correction: Firedragon, which is forked from Floorp, which is forked from Firefox ESR. But Firefox also gives the same error.
