Transcoding with nvidia - DixonBainbridge - 2024-06-25 I have a NVIDIA 3070 running on Ubuntu 24.04. Everything runs fine, I just want to know what to select for "Enable hardware decoding for?" When I first installed I selected everything, and now I can't remember what I should select or de-select? I currently have: Enable hardware decoding for: (Pic attached) I should add I use this media server purely to play back media on our home TVs, on WebOS LG TVs RE: Transcoding with nvidia - nyanmisaka - 2024-06-25 Except for the AV1 hardware encoder, all other options are supported by the RTX 3070. https://developer.nvidia.com/video-encode-and-decode-gpu-support-matrix-new RE: Transcoding with nvidia - DixonBainbridge - 2024-06-25 (2024-06-25, 01:09 PM)nyanmisaka Wrote: Except for the AV1 hardware encoder, all other options are supported by the RTX 3070. Ok, so does that look right what I have selected there? I am actually not 100% sure what hardware encoding is or if I need it, or if my LG TV would play direct. But I gather it is safer to just select everything? Does this means every video is transcoded that I watch on my LG TV or only when required? Also if there a way I can tell if a video is being or has been transcoded while it is being played on my TV? RE: Transcoding with nvidia - TheDreadPirate - 2024-06-25 It is not safer to select everything. Checking those boxes does not mean Jellyfin will transcode everything. The check boxes tell Jellyfin what codecs your GPU supports hardware DECODING when it comes time to transcode. If you select a codec that your GPU does not support decoding the transcode will fail. Jellyfin will log when it transcodes vs direct play. RE: Transcoding with nvidia - DixonBainbridge - 2024-06-25 Can i just ask where i can find this log of recently played files so i can see ehat is being transcoded and what is not? RE: Transcoding with nvidia - DixonBainbridge - 2024-06-25 Actually i found play_method is the logs and it is all saying "direct" RE: Transcoding with nvidia - Mel_Gibson_Real - 2024-06-25 So jellyfin doesnt transcode stuff unless it needs to. So if the media and bitrate is supported on the device it will just direct play it. Try changing the resolution/bitrate on playback if you want to force it to transcode. |
