Offline Catalog Support - nospam4u - 2024-06-28 I am looking for an alternative to my current plex server and a friend suggested JellyFin. I have a synology nas that has completely filled with media. A combination of books, movies, tv series and comics. The NAS is full to the point of being dangerous, so I have moved some of my lesser required materials like periodicals to portable hard drives. Does Jellyfin support the maintaining of metadata/images etc, for media that are no longer online. Or is there a way to set a collection/catalog to not update when media changes on the disk? Thanks NoSpam RE: Offline Catalog Support - Efficient_Good_5784 - 2024-06-28 Jellyfin currently will remove any media from its database if it can't find it physically on the paths you linked to your libraries. So you'll most likely lose the metadata if you remove the media and do a scan. RE: Offline Catalog Support - nospam4u - 2024-06-28 Thanks for the quick response. In Jellyfin, is scanning done by library, or are all libraries routinely scanned? RE: Offline Catalog Support - Efficient_Good_5784 - 2024-06-28 Both work. To further explain, these are your options for scanning your libraries:
You can turn off options 1 and 2. And to explain option 1, real-time scanning will scan files into your Jellyfin database as soon as they're saved onto your server. This will not work with certain things like having your media connected to Jellyfin with an SMB share. RE: Offline Catalog Support - nospam4u - 2024-06-28 I appreciate the help Efficient. |
