Why remuxing? - Alliyance - 2024-06-28

Just wonder why I have a remuxing, transcode when before it was direct playing on Chromecast? Usually the log file says why but since the update, it doesn't say anymore or it's a code that I don't understand.

Log:

Could you share the media info of the affected file? It's a video file inside an mkv container.

Chromecast can only play some codecs inside an mkv container.

If for example the mkv file you're trying to play with it is HEVC/H265, then Jellyfin will need to remux it so that chromecast can play the streams directly.

RE: Why remuxing? - Alliyance - 2024-06-28

Sure

All my file are the same because I want to avoid the need for transcoding on different devices. Since a year, everything was direct stream until now. He use a soundbar which he hasn't change. My friend is connected to my server. Other family members with Roku, Firetv and one who has Chromecast and all plays direct (No soundbar).

MKV
h264 (1080P) SDR
1920 x 800
8 bit depth
AAC 5.1 48000Hz
Bitrate: 5933kbps
SRT Subs

Server version was 10.9.4
Just updated to the latest version 10.9.7

You should submit a github issue to the jellyfin-chromecast git.

https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-chromecast/issues

At the end of the day, the Chromecast tells the server what it can and can't do.

RE: Why remuxing? - TheDreadPirate - 2024-06-28

FWIW, there was a new release for Jellyfin-Chromecast on May 28. A bit after 10.9.2. May or may not be related.

https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-chromecast/releases/tag/v1.2.0

RE: Why remuxing? - Alliyance - 2024-06-28

Ok I'll do that, thanks

This change may be the culprit?
