How can i enable HDR playback in windows? - Jerrk - 2024-07-02

I recently got an HDR capable display ( AW3225QF , HDR, DV, 1000 peak brightness) and i've been trying to set up HDR playback for my desktop pc (win11) but i am unable to find out what settings are needed in mpv.conf to properly playback HDR media through the jellyfin mpv shim.

So far from the mpv.conf settings i've found around google the image is either very muted or incredibly bright.

I was wondering if anyone has this setup and working and if they could share their settings and/or help me figure out

I followed these instructions to setup my display: https://www.reddit.com/r/OLED_Gaming/comments/199f7ge/best_settings_for_aw3225qf/l3s7xl6/

I don't have MPV Shim in front of me, but there should be a setting called "vo-next". I was told that should be one of the settings needed to enable HDR render. I'm assuming your are using Jellyfin MPV Shim, correct?

im assuming you mean vo=gpu-next? is that the only setting i need to change in mpv.conf and it should just work?

Yes i am using Jellyfin MPV shim.

Yes. That is the setting I was talking about.

I don't have an HDR display to verify, but I recall a conversation where that was a key setting that needed to be set for HDR.

With just that setting it doesn't seem to do the colour right, even the poster has better colours than the actual video.

Trying settings like

target-colorspace-hint
d3d11-output-csp=pq
target-trc=pq
target-prim=bt.2020
target-peak=1000
target-contrast=inf
gamma=7

doesnt really seem to help either

not sure exactly what i'm supposed to do.
