Some Kodi questions - volcs0 - 2024-07-04

I installed Jellyfin for Kodi.

Some questions:

1. It is only possible to launch Kodi via the add-ons menu? How can I get all of the movies to show up in the main Kodi menu? Do I need Jellycon for that? I'm using Kodi remotely.
2. Where is the search? How can I search for a movie on my Jellyfin server?
3. How can I switch transcoding while watching the movie? I see the transcoding options in the add-on options. But when I'm watching a movie and it stalls (I have a bad internet connection), I like to be able to quickly switch from 1080 to 720 for instance. The regular Jellyfin interface allows this, but I can't figure it out in the Kodi-Jellyfin interface, with any skin I've tried.

Maybe I'm missing the point, but the regular Jellyfin interface seems so much better. But Kodi is a more reliable player for HDMI passthrough and other issues with my system.
Thanks for the advice.

1. Jellyfin for Kodi needs to be in Native Mode, not Add-on Mode
2. Search is dependent on kodi skin, it's pretty weirdly implemented, check your skin settings
3. I don't use transcoding, so I have no insight on that one, sorry

1. Jellyfin for Kodi is supposed to be used to sync your Jellyfin server's contents into Kodi's internal database. This has the effect that navigating feels like vanilla Kodi because all the default menus get populated. If you're not syncing your server into Kodi's database, then you should really use JellyCon instead, as it's much more optimized for that dynamic menu building. However, JellyCon requires making custom shortcuts on your home screen and is skin dependent. The default Kodi skin doesn't support this customization.
2. Again, if you're synced your metadata into Kodi's database, you interact with it exactly as you would a vanilla Kodi install. There's not a search function built into the addon because you're not really meant to use it in dynamic mode. And again, JellyCon does have one.
3. Transcoding resolution is based on your screen resolution. If you want to change the transcode quality, you need to adjust the bitrate limits in the addon settings. Even in the web UI the resolutions are more approximations based on the bitrate selection, I don't believe any client supports actually transcoding to a specific resolution, it's all approximations.
