Are multilanguage titles planned? - lukasitaly - 2024-07-04

This is a huge problem. My family only understands German and Italian, but the titles are always displayed in English. I could use the filenames, but since I want to see them in English and they want to see them in German/Italian, there would be a conflict of "interest". I've never worked on a huge project like Jellyfin, correct me if I'm wrong, but this shouldn't be a huge feature request. Metadata providers like imdb, themoviedb and tvdb have multilanguage titles, descirptions and even images. This could work with the already existing "Display language" selection, if a user select a different language, the metadata from the provider is pulled in that specific language.

I've seen a feature request for this but it only has a few upvotes. I'm guessing most people that use Jellyfin are English speakers, so this issue is not talked about much, but for people that are from different countries with different languages this is a huge no-no and one of the reasons I can't tell my family to move to Jellyfin.

Does anyone know if this feature is planned or talked about somewhere else?

Thanks in advance

You would have to go into the library settings and change the metadata language. Once you change the language you would need to refresh metadata for the library and "replace all metadata".

But for your situation, since you want both, here is what you would need to do.

A) Create a symlink that points to, for example, your movies library.
B) Create an additional library that points to that symlink. Since you can't have the same path in multiple libraries, this allows us to get around that limitation.
C) For this new library set the "download language" and country fields to your desired language.
D) I'm assuming these other family members have their own users. In the user settings you can set what libraries they can see. Only make these German/Italian libraries visible to them.
