Playback lag - podonnell - 2024-07-17

I'm getting a new issue on a 1080p video that can best be described as a lag. A specific part of the video seems to play sluggishly -- audio continues as normal but the video seemingly has a hiccup and then needs to catch up to audio.
This is playing on both of my LG TVs the same way, but not identically that it's a problem with the video itself. I've also tested on my web browser and phone and neither have the issue.

It's always at the same part of the video as well.

Is this an 'HLS' video? I have been having other playback issues with HLS videos:

Any other ideas otherwise? This is odd because I often play 2160p videos without any type of lag, so a bandwidth issue would not make sense.
Video played fine for the first 5-10 minutes or so and then had this issue at a few different parts.

Pulled up on my phone and PC browser and not a problem at all.

Didn't you say you turned off "prefer fMP4" on the WebOS clients? The log says it is still using MP4.

Code:
-hls_segment_type fmp4
Code:
-hls_segment_filename "\Jellyfin\Data\cache\transcodes\fb3e009b5171304531e5141bab72f2f6%d.mp4"

Whoops, this was from my LG C1 when I came in to test and see if that experienced it as well - I hadn't switched off the setting here yet.
Nevertheless, the LG C1 experienced the issue both ways, with and without that setting enabled.

I have a video to show exactly what's happening:

The issue starts at :13 - the volume is quite low as its a handheld recording, but if you pump the volume you can hear the audio dropping out as well as the video stuttering.

It's occurring at the same exact spot every time. Watching this on my cell phone and my Android TV, I do not experience this issue at all.

That LOOKS like the TV struggling to keep up. Not necessarily anything wrong, per se. In the quality selector, does this still happen when you lower the bit rate below the video's native bit rate.

RE: Playback lag - podonnell - 2024-07-18

It's a 1080p video so it's much lower bitrate than the things I often play.
I put it down to 20 mbps and it still had the issue.

To note, when I change the bitrate DURING the issue, it stops the issue and continues on at least a few seconds in a corrected state. But as soon as I rewind back and play through the part, the issue occurs on the lower bitrate as well.

If you buy me an LG TV I would gladly test this snot out of it to figure this out.  Smiling-face

I am very close to giving mine away after all these unfortunate issues, so you may be in luck  Weary-face

I'd really prefer not to have to use an external device, but what's the most well received version of JellyFin that I could use? Would use a PC connected to TV but I'd like family to be able to use just the remote.

Personally, I have used both Android TV and Roku. I prefer Android TV but the Roku client is also very good.

For reference I have a Chromecast with Google TV 4K and a Roku Ultra 4800X. My parent's Sony TV has built-in Android TV and it worked very well on that as well.

If you don't intend to use a dongle, I recommend avoiding Samsung and their Tizen OS.
