remove unimportant features and repeating for menus - HERIGROSIR - 2024-07-19

I found a lot of menus, to choose language and country
filling this makes a lot of work and is not smart.

I suggest only one option, namely language, and not country,
of course if you choose english, it doesn't matter whether you are from England or America, there is not much difference
each other understand.

Example: if I choose Indonesian, the country of origin will automatically be Indonesia, no need to prepare a menu to select the country again, what's the point?

So you don't need to install lots of menus so Jellyfin is light

I found there are 6 or even 7 language and country settings in the Jellyfin software if you start counting from when you first installed the software

My advice, just choose a language at the start, then everything else follows that language, including metadata, program menus, subtitles, everything.
make jellyfin software as simple and smart as possible, so that there is not too much work involved

Thank You

Country is very important for metadata.
- The rating systems between different English speaking countries is not the same for example.
- One might also want to set the language to English while not living in an English speaking country for example.

Subtitle preference are per user, the library might be in language A. User 1 might want subtitles in language B. User 2 might want language C...

Some people might also have one library with English shows, while another with shows in there Native language and want the library language to match etc.

Broadly they fall in a few categories:
- server settings/defaults
- library overrides
- user preference

Having just one option would be a huge step back. IIRC one you pick during the setup wizard does become the default for a lot of them.

A couple weeks ago, a user needed help setting up a separate library for their parents who did not speak English. All these "unnecessary" settings allowed this user to create separate libraries for their parents that pulled down metadata in their native language. And also display the client interface in their native language and automatically use the subtitles/audio tracks in their native language. But the forum user could still keep English metadata and an English interface language for themselves.

For most users they are "unnecessary". Most of them can be left blank or auto and they will inherit the global settings from your first and second screenshots. But they are there for the users that need it.

- Metadata is taken from your language

-  One might also want to set the language to English while not living in an English speaking country for example. this doesn't make sense
I'll give you an example so you understand , I know you are from the belgium  country , you must choose your language
if you go abroad to Indonesia or to India , You keep using your language belgium country or English , in your laptop or in all your documents

Do you want to change it when you move countries?? of course not really  Grinning-face

So what's the point of setting country settings??

The client account is created by the admin, there are settings to select the language that they can choose themselves, everything follows
I'm not talking about eliminating it entirely, I found too many language and country settings

That's right, leaving it blank is fine, but too many settings are also complicated for ordinary users.
The practicality of software is very necessary in the current and future era

if it is refuted it will take a long time , Grinning-face
Basically I found 7 language and country settings,  What does it mean ??

Look on your phone, how many language and country settings are there?? Just one time, it's done

The point is that different countries will have differences in their official languages, despite being the same language.

Example:
United States of America: Color
Every other English speaking country: Colour

Another example is Spanish. Did you know that Spanish spoken in Mexico is different in some ways as compared to Spanish spoken in Spain?

I think you're misunderstanding here. You're not supposed to keep changing the country. You just set it once for your preferred language and forget about it.
As in, if you're most comfortable with Spanish from Mexico, choose Mexico. If you're most comfortable with Spanish from Spain, then choose Spain.
