Syncing content between servers - CuzImBatman - 2024-07-30 Hi, Started using Jellyfin this year, and very much enjoying it. Currently, I live at home and have set up a Jellyfin server on an old laptop. My parents very much enjoy using the frontend, but are not techwise enough to download content. In a month, I will be moving out and don't want to deprive my parents of their Jellyfin server. As such, I would like to create a new server at the new location. Ideally, I would like to download content on my own server, which then is also downloaded on the server of my parents. Is there a way to set this up without using sonarr and radarr, as I have had some trouble recently with finding downloads through these programs, making me resort to manually downloading (i.e. not through -arr programs). If possible, I would also like to keep the watched/not watched data separate. My parents internet is not stable enough, and therefore a local server would be much better (if possible). Is this something that can be achieved? If so, feel free to share any documentation or send me in the right direction! Thanks! RE: Syncing content between servers - TheDreadPirate - 2024-07-30 What OS is the new and old server running? RE: Syncing content between servers - Efficient_Good_5784 - 2024-07-30 You have three approaches to this issue. 1. Use some software that allows you to remote log-in into your parents' server so that you can manually get the media onto their machine. 2. Sync your media files over the internet to your parents' server. 3. Use a portable drive(s) to fill up with new content, then when you go visit your parents, you transfer the data off of the portable drives onto their server. Also, make sure their Jellyfin server is set to auto-scan so they don't have to worry about that step. Watch status will be kept separate if all you're doing is transferring the media files only to your parents' server. The tricky part is if you want to transfer over metadata. Maybe Jellyfin gets the metadata wrong on their system and you have to log in to fix it, or one of you nfo files has watched status meant for you and not them. RE: Syncing content between servers - theguymadmax - 2024-07-30 For option 2, I recommend using Syncthing. It’s a reliable tool for syncing files across multiple devices securely and efficiently. Currently I use chrome remote desktop to remotely add media. I was hoping to avoid having to do this, and option 2 is the ideal solution. I will have a look at the suggestion made by another user. |
