Jellyfin cannot download metadata. Pfsense firewall the cause? - lindsey.whittaker - 2023-08-19
Jellyfin cannot download metadata for new content, even when specifying the imdb ID all I'm greeting with is a blank screen. I'm 99.9% sure this is since switching to pfsense, and is probably due to the firewall.
Any googling only shows results for portforwarding to jellyfin which I have already set up is working spiffily.
Does anyone know what rule would have to be configured to allow jellyfin to through the firewall outbound?
I'm very new to this sort of thing so please talk to me like I'm a slightly stupid toddler.

This might be better to ask on a pfsense focused forum/subreddit since jellyfin is the victim and not the cause.
But the metadata lookups are plain http/https. Nothing special. If you have any rules denying by default outgoing connections, that might cause what you are seeing.
