Movies sorting by "date added" and "Latest movies" broken - alike - 2024-08-03

The sorting seams to get metadata from something I don't know about.

On the folder on my file explorer, the latest movie I download to that folder is not the one showing as latest in Jellyfin.
My setting for dates are then inĀ /dashboard/libraries/display "use file creation date".
If I change this to "use the date from scanning to library" all that are added to the library will be updated. But the ones there from before will not, so its broken as well.

What can I do?

Also, I am using Rar2FS to change rar and archived files to unpacked ones. However, the dates there are the same as the one in the original folder. So I don't think that's the problem.

That's normal. The setting doesn't apply to old content. It only applies to media added after you changed it.

Jellyfin does not store both dates in the metadata. So if you didn't enable it before, the time of which you added the media to a library is long gone.

The only way to "fix" your issue is for you to remove all your media, then add them one-by-one in the same order you have done so. That is, if you can remember that for all your videos.

Since you had "use the file's creation time" selected, when you sort by date added, you're sorting by the date the files came into existence by whoever created them. Or if you extracted them or modified them, their creation dates can be changed too which jumbles the sorting some more.

Ok so it does not use the latest "change date" of files but uses another form of metadata, like creation date or something else hidden from my explorer view? Seams like it.
I can see that all things that are added after the library was created, they show sort by date correctly. On the files that where there before the library was made, the date sorting is weird.
So each time I make a new library, it will look weird.

Is it anyway to change this somehow? To make jellyfin look for date of last change rather than date of creation or whatever it is using now?

The way its working now doesn't really work good with my way of handling mediadata.
I was used to Kodi before this and if I'm not wrong kodi got the last change of file as date sorting method.

As the name of one of the option states, it's using the file's creation date. What you want is the file's last modified date.

Jellyfin doesn't go by last modified date. You can only choose to use the creation date, or date scanned into the library.
Obviously, if you scan a bunch of files into a library for the first time, the date of scanning for all of them will be roughly at the same time, so sorting will appear to be random.

I don't know, windows file explorer shows the change date as the creation date as well when I check here.
Seams I need to try and create my own plugin to change this somehow. It will be my first try so I don't know where to start.

This is almost a deal-breaker for me right now.
