Player Error Encountered Google TV - larkhillv - 2024-08-16

Hello,

Tried searching the forum but couldn't seem to find a thread addressing this exact issue. I am running Jellyfin on an Unraid server and am having issues streaming only certain files. The majority of the files I have stream fine, but when I try to stream any episode of a certain show on my Chromecast running Google TV or through the Jellyfin app installed on my TV's OS (also Google TV) it says "Player Error Encountered" and fails to even load the episode.

What's odd is that I have another TV which runs off of Roku's OS and have the Jellyfin app installed there too, but it can play this show just fine, so I am not sure what the problem is with this show not playing specifically through Google TV's version of Jellyfin.

- Jellyfin v10.9.9

- Unraid v6.12.6, installed through Docker

- Clients having issues: Chromecast running Google TV and Google TV built into TV

- Clients that can stream OK: Roku TV, Android phone

See below for the log file in pastebin:

If any other info would be helpful to solving the issue, please let me know. Thanks!

That is an ffmpeg log that looks normal. Can you share the log file that starts with "log" in the file name?

RE: Player Error Encountered Google TV - larkhillv - 2024-08-16

Sorry, I tried using pastebin for that log file initially as well but for some reason it was saying, " Pastebin’s SMART filters have detected potentially offensive or questionable content in your Paste." and automatically set the visibility to Private, so I didn't include it in my original post. I don't know why, the file name is not offensive and it's literally just a string of events and code jargon I don't understand...

I pasted into a Word doc and uploaded here instead. Sorry I saw in the community rules it says to really limit uploading files, so if you need me to delete the file and have an alternate to pastebin that I can use let me know.

It looks like you've disabled transcoding. I am 90% certain the problem is that the Android TV client wants/needs the media transcoded but can't get it.

RE: Player Error Encountered Google TV - larkhillv - 2024-08-17

Oh yeah sorry I forgot to mention that--by default transcoding was enabled when I was having the issue. I was looking around other posts and someone mentioned try turning off transcoding for that user through the Jellyfin dashboard, which I tried and still having the issue. So the issue persists, whether or not transcoding is enabled.

Just to be safe, I went ahead and reenabled transcoding and still getting the error. If you need a new log, let me know.

Can you share the new log so I can verify that it was trying to transcode.  Also can you share the media info for the video?

There's an issue with the MKV container. Remux one of the files and try it out on your system.

Code:
/usr/lib/jellyfin-ffmpeg/ffmpeg -i path/to/input.mkv -map 0 -c copy /path/to/output.mkv

I uploaded an updated log after turning transcoding back on for the user profile in Jellyfin and trying to play the video again.

I pasted the media info at the very end of the log.

Any luck on fixing this? I'm having the same issues. Able to play my media just fine on my pixel 8 pro, and windows 11 machine but my Chromecast and iPad are both having player issues.

I even tried re encoding my videos to .MP4 instead of .mkv but it didn't help.

Can you provide your system specs and server logs?
