Anime metadata not showing? - FakeSteak - 2024-08-21

I will try to be as descriptive as possible, so as to help troubleshoot what is going on.

For some anime, such as the one shown and One Piece, the metadata for the files works fine for the first season, but on the second and further, no longer shows the correct title/an overview. Instead, the title will be the name of the series, and the overview will not be present. I use the TVDB for anime which is kept in a separate folder, with anilist and anidb as backups (though both these shows are on the tvdb and their metadata is correct, so it shouldn't need to pull from those two).

I'm fairly certain the media itself is not the issue, as subsequent seasons are formatted just like the first, yet only the first does not have this issue. Sonarr, which is in charge of naming them, uses what I assume to be the suggested naming scheme for episodes.

I.e. An example episode's file for kirby would be titled: Kirby - Right Back at Ya! (2001) - S02E05 - 031 - Abusement Park

Again, this naming scheme works for the first season, but not subsequent ones.

Can you provide examples of the full path? Also, what is the "031" in your example? The absolute episode number? I'm wondering if that is throwing off Jellyfin's filename parser.

Sure. For the one used in the example:

/data/media/anime/Kirby - Right Back at Ya! (2001) [tvdbid-71014]/Season 02/Kirby - Right Back at Ya! (2001) - S02E05 - 031 - Abusement Park [HDTV-1080p][10bit][x265][AAC 2.0][JA].mkv

And yes, the 031 would be the absolute number for the episode in the series.

And your library is configured to have "anime" as the root folder for the library, correct?

For testing, pick a couple of season 2 episodes and remove the absolute episode number. Rescan and report back.

I did it, seems to have worked, and then renamed enmasse. I had to delete the current nfo files, then do a refresh, but metadata seems to have populated correctly. Thank you for your help.
