It is driving me crazy - Kurt - 2024-09-03

Hi,
I'm trying Jellyfin (on a Synology Container Manager) for getting away from Plex but I'm facing 2 problems (at least for now):

1- For my Live concerts, I created a "Music Video" library. In general it's working but there are some mkv concerts (for example, 'Portishead: Roseland NYC Live' plus another mkv of the extras. Also 2 live concerts from Manic Street Preachers) that Jellyfin doesn't show.
(Sorry for the comparison but) Both Plex and Emby can see them without any problem.

2- I have 3 music videos from Chris Cornell (mp4), on a library named, precisely, "Music Videos".
What happens is that they are grouped. I go to "Chris Cornell" and then I have to choose on a drop list which video I want.
Again, sorry for the comparison, on Emby I go to the folder "Chris Cornell" and split versions apart.

What else can I do?
I really want to migrate to Jellyfin, and I was thinking about making a donation to help the developers, but this situation is pushing me a bit to Emby (sorry).

Thanks!!!

This is probably due to the files having the same name and causing a merge to happen.
Can you show the file names for all three?

Hi,
Hope it helps

We'd need the full file names for the files. But what you are showing does indicate you have accidentally used our "multiple versions" syntax.

Hi,
Sorry for the late reply but it was an hell of a day.

/video/Videoclips/Chris Cornell/Chris Cornell - Nothing Compares 2 U (Prince Cover) [Live @ SiriusXM] Lithium.mp4

/video/Videoclips/Chris Cornell/Chris Cornell - Patience (Official Video).mp4

/video/Videoclips/Chris Cornell/Chris Cornell - The Promise.mp4

("Videoclips" means "Music Videos")

Thanks

Yes, you've stumbled upon the "multiple versions" syntax. I thought it only worked in a movie or show library, but it appears to work in music video libraries as well.

If you don't want it to merge the three videos, I think removing the dash in the file name after "Chris Cornell" and rescanning the library should break them apart.

/video/Videoclips/Chris Cornell/Chris Cornell Patience (Official Video).mp4

EDIT: Nevermind, TheDreadPirate has a better solution! Just changing one filename and removing the dash seems to do the trick too. Thank you!

Same issue here and just noticed while adding a whole bunch of Rage Against The Machine videos to my Music Video library.
I think this is happening because the files are beginning with the same name as the folder they reside in.
Workaround for me is to add something like "Songs" to the end of the folder name to make it different enough to stop Jellyfin from detecting all songs as "versions" of the first file it found.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
I'm so sorry for taking so long to get back but I've been extremely busy.

So, for the 2nd point, it's already sorted but what about the 1st point?

Thanks!

Can you provide the full file path for the video(s) not being shown?

RE: It is driving me crazy - Kurt - 2024-09-10

Well, it is becoming more strange 😆

Speaking about Manic Street Preachers I had:

/video/Concertos/Manic Street Preachers/Manic Street Preachers - Glastonbury 2023/Manic Street Preachers - Glastonbury 2023.mkv

/video/Concertos/Manic Street Preachers/Manic Street Preachers - Leaving the 20th Century, Cardiff Millennium Stadium 1999-2000/Leaving The 20th Century_Cardiff Millennium Stadium (1999-2000).mkv

and

/video/Concertos/Manic Street Preachers/Manic Street Preachers - Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You (Live from Cardiff Millennium Stadium '99).mp4

Only the latter was showing up on Jellyfin.

What i did was to delete "Manic Street Preachers" from all sub-folders and video files name, refresh the library. Didn't work.
Then I moved the "Glastonbury 2023.mkv" to the "root" of the Manic Street Preachers main folder, and now all the files are being shown on Jellyfin (including the "Leaving The 20th Century_Cardiff Millennium Stadium (1999-2000).mkv" that remains on the correspondent subfolder, and even the subfolder "Glastonbury 2023" (which is empty since I moved the video file out of it) 🤷🏼

😆

(Yes, the way I organise my "things" is a bit strange)
