Problem with Trakt plugin - Six66Mike - 2023-08-24

I gather from the plugin page that this is where I should ask for Trakt plugin support.  I have Jellyfin v10.8.10 from SynoCommunity installed on my NAS and the Trakt plugin version is 23.0.0.0

I recently noticed some shows I have played once have play counts on Trakt in the dozens or hundreds.  For instance I added Mythbusters in December, and now each episode has close to 250 plays.

Shows I added in early July are up to 80 plays, though I have only watched them once.  I have a daily scheduled task to export library to Trakt and it feels like every time this runs, the play count is being incremented, but it's not on all shows, only some.  I first noticed on Tuesday, Mythbuster episodes had 246 plays, now on Thursday it's 248 and it's all episodes in all seasons I have with the same play count.

In a David Attenborough 6 episode series, episodes 1 & 2 have 1 play, E03 has 2 plays, E04 has 4 plays, E05 has 260 plays and E06 has 71 plays.  For those with dozens or hundreds of plays, each play appears on the same day at the same timestamp, for the 260 play Attenborough episode is Nov 25, 2022 4:37 PM.  For all the Mythbusters it's in December for several days around the 3rd week of the month.

So it feels like that's the day I marked the episodes as watched (adding new content I watched on Zappiti previously and marked a whole season as Watched), and now every day I sync that data, it's adding another playcount at the same timestamp.  But it's been 272 days since Nov 25th, a gap of 12 days for the play count on E06.  Mythbusters 248 plays from around Dec 20-23 I'm looking at roughly 260 days since added and 248 days, again 12 days.  I add the content, mark it watched, 12 days and everything looks ok, then every day it's adding 1 playcount, maybe that's when I worked out the daily scheduled task.

EDIT: So Haunting of Hill House and Haunting of Bly Manor were added the same date to the collection, Dec 4. Bly Manor had thousands of hours watched, so on Tuesday I went to Trakt, reset it to unwatched then watched again, setting play count to 1.  Hill House has only had 1 play per episode since adding & marking as watched.  Bly Manor since Tuesday is up to 4 plays now, all on the date/time added.  Two shows, added the same day and marked watched the same day, yet one is updating play count every single day since and the other isn't.  Weary-face //EDIT

Is it as simple as killing the task?  Will content still be updated in realtime as I add/update things making the daily task redundant?

I feel it's also worth noting the same behaviour is NOT present for movies, highest play count on any film is just 2.

Who looks after the Trakt plugin?

Nobody else has crazy play counts that increase each day?

I have the problem that sometimes as soon as a TV episode is added to the Jellyfin it gets added to Trakt as "played". This does not happen for movies and I can't find a pattern of what triggers it.

How do I get this acknowledged as an issue, let alone fixed? It's absolutely destroying the point of Trakt integration.

Based on random issues I've seen other users have with the synocommunity version of jellyfin, I'm thinking there is something about the syncommunity "app" of jellyfin that is causing this issue. Some people can't transcode with the syno app. Some people can't direct play with the syno app. Switching to the official docker image resolved those issues.

For the record, the synocommunity app is not an official release. We have no idea if they changed anything. Even doing something as simple as wrapping the official image in Ubuntu, ala LSIO Jellyfin, has been documented to cause weird behaviors.
