Transcoding question - tipitao - 2024-09-07

Good morning, I have Jellyfin installed (latest version) on an Open Mediavault 7 x64 docker compose running fine and configured. My question is whether I should configure transcoding for better performance (especially for 4K content, which I don't know if it is theoretically possible to play smoothly, especially due to the limitation of the TV's Ethernet card) and if so, which Jellyfin options are appropriate for my equipment. It is a local network, so at the moment no one can access it from outside. My equipment is:

-Nas
Cpu: Intel N100
Ram: 16 GB Ddr5
Disc: Ironwolft 3.5'
Network: : 4 x 2.5 Gb

-Smart Tv
Brand: Samsung 55NU8000
Resolution: 4K Hdr
Network: Ethernet 100 Mb

-Router
Brand ZTE
Network: 1 Gb

The internal wiring is 1 Gb and the speed is also good.

Greetings

The CPU's iGPU is capable of decoding all codecs except for VP8. Just leave VP8 unchecked and the rest checked.

OK thanks

Sorry for hijacking this thread but my hardware and needs are the same as the OP so his experience is useful to me.

Apart from the codecs I'm not sure of which of the other settings should I check or uncheck. I've attached a picture of my current configuration, should I change anything?

Thanks.

Uncheck "Allow encoding in AV1 format". The N100 can only decode AV1. I also recommend enabling transcode throttling and delete segments. Not necessary, but keeps disk usage for transcodes in check.

Good morning, I wanted to know if the infrastructure I have and having only 1 user in my internal network, if the appropriate thing is to do transcoding with my NAS N100 or that the Samsung TV does that function. Depending on the answer, I would activate or deactivate the transcoding. If the option was to activate the transcoding, I have seen an answer that leaves the VP8 codec deactivated in addition to this. Are there any other options in the Jellyfin server configuration to take into account?. Sometimes the Samsung TV displays the message "network cable disconnected" and then immediately "network cable connected" for example when watching a 1080p 11 Gb movie. It could not be that the 100 mb/s of your ethernet are saturated.

Transcoding is always done by the server.

The N100 supports decoding the entire list in Jellyfin EXCEPT VP8.

Thanks for your help. On hardware acceleration option, for intel N100 Cpu in Open Mediavault X64 Linux, whap option is better / more suitable (Intel Quicksync, videl aceleration API, video4Linuz 2....? and For the option:

* Enable hardware decoding for

What options should I activate according to my hardware (Intel N/100, 16 GB DDR5) and Linux x64?.....
- H264
- Enable hardware encoding
- Allow encoding in HEVC format
- Allow encoding in AV1 format

Best regards
