Headless with HW acceleration - unmesh59 - 2024-09-08

I'm looking to use Jellyfin hardware acceleration on a 1L mini Intel PC running Ubuntu where the 8th generation CPU supports Quick Sync but where there will not be a monitor attached. I will use an SSH terminal or Remote Desktop to administer the box.

As per the following web page, Plex needs a monitor or a so-called dummy plug to turn on hardware acceleration of encoding/decoding.

Is that a hardware requirement and therefore true for Jellyfin too?

Thanks

No, not necessary. You could enable QuickSync support via the Admin Dashboard form the Jellyfin Web UI. This is the standard way to enable transcoding irrespective of OS.

Yes, it supports headless mode. You can find it in the documentation.

Thanks, guys! I don't know how I missed the info on headless operation support.
