Stutter, Fps drop - jordymoz - 2024-09-10

So my setup used to work fine, however not so much anymore. Slight stutter when playback 4k movies, I have my server installed onto my desktop and playback to my Nvidia Shield, so no transcoding should be happening. Eventually want to setup a NAS and go that way but need to iron out these issues first.

Desktop specs:
11700k
3070ti
32gb Ram

Shield I have to use a usb to ethernet adapter due to the port blowing up in a storm. I Have done a Lan read and write test to the drive (not sure if this effects network transfer over jellyfin) but I know I get quicker then my 60Mbps movie so I dont see the network as a bottleneck.

Any help much appreciated.

Edit: Log was too large to upload 687kb

it is clearly transcoding though...

So in transcoding i have unchecked every box, anything else i need to do to disable it?

Unchecking the codec boxes only means you aren't using any GPU acceleration for decoding or encoding. If you check them that doesn't mean Jellyfin will ALWAYS transcode. Transcoding only happens when it is needed. That can be codec compatibility, container compatibility, subtitle compatibility, the network speed doesn't support the bit rate of the video.

On your shield, do you have the max bit rate set to auto? If so, try switching it to 100Mbps+.

Also, WiFi 5 on the 5Ghz band should be much more than fast enough for this video if you want to stop using your USB to ethernet adapter.

I honestly think that ethernet jack was causing me more grief then what it was worth. im on wifi again and it seems to be going good! off topic: btw nice server. im going in that direction, how much wattage do you use on idle

RE: Stutter, Fps drop - TheDreadPirate - 2024-09-12

IDK. Electricity is cheap in my US state. Not enough to meaningfully change my energy bill.

The Arc series are not known for their IDLE power efficiency. They don't down clock as much as AMD and Nvidia cards. But idle power usage is supposed to be better with the upcoming Battlemage. Whenever that comes out.

Arc idle power usage can be mitigated a bit if your motherboard is relatively modern and supports ASPM (often not enabled by default).

sweet, i have a hp elitedesk in the shed I might install ubuntu on and have a play around with in the meantime. seems like a good project to get stuck into.
