Can not port forward 8096 - john1941 - 2024-09-13 Jellyfin server and Jellyfin Media Player work fine on my PC. I can not access the Jellyfin server on my other local PC's or on ONN TV Roku Jellyfin or on ROKU 4K. Always get the message 192.168.1.34;8096 "Server not found, is it online?" PortCheckTool.com says "Problem! I could not see your service on [Public IP censored by TDP] on port (8096). Reason: Connection timed out." I have tried Microsoft tech support. The man at Optimum showed me how to do a port forward on 8096, but it has not worked. Yesterday I signed up with PasteBin.com, in the event you wanted my logs, etc. I know nothing about PasteBin, but assume I just copy/paste? Can you help? RE: Can not port forward 8096 - TheDreadPirate - 2024-09-13 PortCheckTool wouldn't be able to check if a port is open to LAN PCs. I'm assuming Jellyfin server is installed on Windows. Click Start > type "Resource Monitor" > click on the Network tab > expanded the Listening Ports table. Find jellyfin.exe on port 8096. What does the firewall status column say? Should be "Allowed, unrestricted". Also check if your network card is set to "Private" network and not "Public" network. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/73866/how-to-change-network-settings-from-public-to-priv#:~:text=repeat%20the%20steps.-,Using%20Settings,-You%20can%20also RE: Can not port forward 8096 - Lost_Ones - 2024-09-13 Hello, let me see if I can help out. I presume at this point your are trying to access you jellyfin server from the local network? You should only have port forwarding open if you are trying to access it externally. 1) Has this worked before? If yes, when did it stop? 2) Are the other devices on the same subnet? example, all IPs are 192.168.1.x 3) From the other PCs, can you at least 'ping' the IP address on the local network? 4) Are you using a reverse proxy or are there any hardware firewalls? 5) From the other PCs, how are you trying to access the server, via browser or the app? Have your tied with both http and https and are you using just the IP address or are you also using any DNS names? Regards, RE: Can not port forward 8096 - john1941 - 2024-09-14 TheDreadPirate, in the ListeningPorts Table, there is no jellyfine.exe Jellyfin.exe is on autostart in the tray (Windows 10) Is there anyway to get an email when someone replies - I think I have it checked . RE: Can not port forward 8096 - toytown - 2024-09-14 "192.168.1.34;8096" It should be a colon, not semi colon. RE: Can not port forward 8096 - john1941 - 2024-09-14 Toytown, It was a colon, my typo never learned to type accurately - john RE: Can not port forward 8096 - TheDreadPirate - 2024-09-14 If it isn't in the listening ports table, then it isn't running. In the tray app does it say it is started? In task manager is there a jellyfin.exe process? RE: Can not port forward 8096 - john1941 - 2024-09-14 Optimum finally straightened out the modem/router, GATEWAY 6e, that I received over 2 weeks ago. Yesterday, Sept 13 @ 8AM, an optimum tech showed me how to do port forwarding on the Gateway 6e. The result was not immediate. Then,he said, to wait 3 hours. On Sep 13, at 4 PM, I went to the store in the Patriot Center. I told James of my 2 week old plight and he scheduled a tech, for WED Sept. 18. The problem existed with Altice_Optimum_Suddenlink and their new Gateway6e modem/router. I would not have neeed a new modem/router, but the idiot person at Optimum said it must be the router, to take it back. I took it back, later that afternoon. I saw an Optimum truck with a repair man up on the pole. He fixed what was wrong, in the cable. Some good folks at Optimum (no last names, wouldn't want mine either, if I worked for Optimum) James at the Patriot Center in Parkerburg, WV, Lindsay in Southern WV, and Faig (somewhere in the world), who showed me how to port forward. Time spent in the Optimum office is terribl,e because their system is sooo slow. I do not understand since I am on 1GB sevice. Many problems with the Gateway6 router, the last one was that it would not connect Jellyfin. I descheduled the tech. Sept 14,after 10:30 AM the port forwarding started working, after 27 hours. Now I can receive the Jellyfin server on all PC's and on the TV, and other Roku devices. RE: Can not port forward 8096 - TheDreadPirate - 2024-09-14 FYI, you don't need port forwarding for accessing Jellyfin on the same LAN. Port forwarding is for accessing jellyfin out side of your home. RE: Can not port forward 8096 - john1941 - 2024-09-14 TheDreadPirate, FYI, I do not know. All I think know is that I coud not access the server on the new Ryzen PC from other PC's or devices. After over 2 weeks, now I could access it. Have you an explanation? John |
