Question about Live-TV traffic with forced transcoding - toucanw0w - 2024-09-15
Hey,
I've set up a Jellyfin server with Live-TV on a dedicated machine in my home network.
Also, i've enabled the option to always transcode media from external sources, e.g. Live-TV.
As far as i understand, if i watch Live-TV from any client in my home network, the connection to the actual streaming server is only active on my Jellyfin server, and not on any client i watch Live-TV from, is this correct?

Correct. When you force transcoding for live TV, only the Jellyfin server connects to the stream source.

So If force transcoding is not selected does that mean the server is linking the client directly to the stream source? and not wasting bandwidth buy pulling the stream first.
