Filtering/Avoiding Specific File Extensions During Scan - ben_r_ - 2024-09-16 New to using JellyFin and trying to make the migration from years of using Plex. One of the features I can't seem to replicate with JellyFin is the ability to ignore or select specific file types in a media folder. Either via whitelist or blacklist. Is there a way to do that? RE: Filtering/Avoiding Specific File Extensions During Scan - gnattu - 2024-09-16 The jellyfin way to do similar things is to add a .ignore file into the folder you want to ignore to ignore that entire folder rather than filter by suffix. RE: Filtering/Avoiding Specific File Extensions During Scan - ben_r_ - 2024-09-16 Okay, and there is a similar method with Plex, however the details of that .ignore file can be edited to include specific file extensions to ignore. With JellyFin is it all or nothing in a given folder when it comes to ignoring files? RE: Filtering/Avoiding Specific File Extensions During Scan - TheDreadPirate - 2024-09-16 All or nothing for the entire directory it is in. RE: Filtering/Avoiding Specific File Extensions During Scan - ben_r_ - 2024-09-16 Dang, that's what I was afraid of. The #snapshot files Synology NAS units use for backup/security cause media files in that folder to show up in JellyFin media library scans redundantly. Like many many times. And since those #snapshot files are in every directory, it means I cannot use JellyFin. With Plex the ignore file can be "edited"/fine-tuned to ignore specific file extensions or types and I have it setup to ignore the #snapshot files. RE: Filtering/Avoiding Specific File Extensions During Scan - theguymadmax - 2024-09-16 Does it create a mutable "#snapshot" folder? If so, you could add the .ignore file to that folder. Also, making the snapshot not visible and rescanning your media might work. RE: Filtering/Avoiding Specific File Extensions During Scan - ben_r_ - 2024-09-16 OOOOOhhhh! That right there might be the answer to my issue! Never noticed that setting before! I was actually surprised I couldn't find any other posts around the net with the same problem which indicated to me I was missing some simple fix! I will try that and report back, thank you! RE: Filtering/Avoiding Specific File Extensions During Scan - ben_r_ - 2024-09-16 Yep! That fixed it!!! Scan worked perfectly! Thank you for the suggestion! |
