Can't figure out subtitles - Geomancer - 2024-09-22 I'm really struggling with getting subtitles to work, mainly that I can not find an option for them anywhere when playing a video. The video I'm playing is in an mkv container, if I play it in VLC I can go to the subtitle menu and select from several different languages including English (which is what I want). In Jellyfin however, no subtitles show at all (in any langauge) and there is no option anywhere that I can see to pick a subtitle. In the client settings for subtitles I have tried selecting English as the preferred language, and subtitle mode to always play, but I still do not get any subtitles. In the server dashboard under Playback->Transcoding I have tried turning both on and off the "Allow subtitle extraction on the fly" setting. In the user settings under Media playback, the first four options are enabled to allow transcoding. I'm using Jellyfin Server 10.9.1 running on Windows. I'm using the Jellyfin windows application on the client, version 10.9.1. I have also tried playing it on my TV with Google TV with the Jellyfin App, as well as on my Android phone. In all cases, there is no option to select subtitles. I've also tried installing the Subtitle Extract plugin and allowing it to run the scheduled task overnight. Clearly I'm missing something, can someone please point out to me how to get subtitles to work? Version 10.9.1 is quite outdated. If you're not on the latest version, you should update; you can download it here. For subtitles, a CC icon will show up if they're detected, its location varies by client. You can use it to toggle subtitles on and off. Whoops, you're right, it wasn't the latest. Updated to: Server version: 10.9.11 Web version: 10.9.11 Build version: 10.9.11 The client version is actually 1.11.1 (was looking at the wrong thing last time). However, this did not change anythiing. I do not get the CC button shown in your screenshot. I've attached a screenshot of what I see. RE: Can't figure out subtitles - theguymadmax - 2024-09-22 Is this all files or one file in particular? Post the media info for the file and your server logs. RE: Can't figure out subtitles - Geomancer - 2024-09-22 I generally do not use subtitles, but this particular video switches between Japanese points of view and American points of view, but during the Japanese segments there are no subtitles so can't understand what they're saying. They work seamlessly in VLC. I loaded up some other content just to quickly look, most do not have the CC button, but a few do. I'd say that 99% of what I watch though is in English, so don't need subtitles and don't want them. So can't say it's unique to this file in particular, because it isn't something I encounter often. It doesn’t indicate embedded subtitles. If you're using external subs, make sure the filename matches the media file and it's in the same folder for Jellyfin to recognize it. RE: Can't figure out subtitles - Geomancer - 2024-09-22 That was everything from clicking the 3 dots, and selecting Media Info. It does not use external subtitle files. I've included a screenshot of what VLC shows for subtitles. RE: Can't figure out subtitles - theguymadmax - 2024-09-22 Try refreshing the metadata and choose Replace all metadata for the refresh mode. Post the server logs after it's refreshed. RE: Can't figure out subtitles - Geomancer - 2024-09-22 No change unfortunately. RE: Can't figure out subtitles - theguymadmax - 2024-09-22 There might be an issue with the media file. You can try extracting the SRT file by typing CMD in the start menu to open the Command Prompt, then run this command: Code: "C:\Program Files\Jellyfin\Server\ffmpeg.exe" -i "D:\Movies\Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970).mkv" -map 0:s:0 "D:\Movies\Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970).en.srt" |
