Make artwork permanent - Checkerknight - 2024-09-29

My raspberry pi died last night and I had to do a complete reinstall of everything including Jellyfin. Once my media library was done scanning I had to go through and re-identify a few movies and reselect a whole bunch of artwork that I prefer for my movie covers. How would I make these artwork changes permanent so I dont have to do it everytime I have to do a reinstall or anything of the sort? I navigated to the jellyfin/data folder and tried looking around in there and I found the old artwork it defaulted to, but they didnt get replaced when I changed them in the library itself. Let me know what other info you need.

You can save images directly in the folder. If you name them properly Jellyfin will pick it up automatically.

And it is mostly the same, but slightly different for shows.

So I would have to manually make that folder and picture for every movie? Jellyfin has no way of saving the current images for everything on its own?

There is a library setting to save images in the media folders. If you add new content with that setting enabled it will automatically save the images it retrieves from TMDB/TVDB/etc in the media folder. If you enable the setting after you've already created the library, any content already in the library won't retroactively have the images you customized written to disk. If you were to rescan and "replace all metadata" and check "replace all images" it would place images in folder it had previous already scanned, but would not use the customized images.

If you already have images saved elsewhere on your computer, you can simply put the images in the appropriate movie/show, name it properly, and Jellyfin will pick it up on the next scan.

Hypothetically, if your Jellyfin server were to implode again, when you re-setup Jellyfin it will just pick up the images that are already there.

Documentation for image naming is linked below.
