Playback doesn't work right anymore - Massacher - 2024-10-04

I've been having this issue since last week.

It was all working fine until I played a movie that is encoded with HEVC. It refuses to play any movie with this encoding. At first it only happened occasionally but it got more and more frequent. When it happens the picture gets all messed up like someone smudging wet paint on a painting that's in progress. Now it keeps giving a message on my tv that there's a playback error. After 3-4 attempts it gives up and shows a message that there were too many errors. And it returns to the movie's description page.

I am using an old Linksys 5-Port 10/100 Switch (model  SD205) to extend my internet connection to my server which is in the lounge. From there I plug my server into the switch and also my tv. So I have an ethernet cable going from my modem in my office to the lounge. Which is two rooms away. Then I have my tv plugged into it too. I don't know if its limiting my bandwidth? I have a gigabit connection so its more than capable. I think Blu-ray/4K needs 40Mbps to playback at a smooth rate? I know the switch's maximum speed is 100Mbps. So even with that it should be enough to play 4K movies.

I checked the Jellyfin version and it wasn't up to date. So I updated it to 10.9.11. I also updated the app on my tv.

These are the specs of my server:

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

AMD Ryzen 3 2200G Raven Ridge 14nm Technology

16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR4 @ 1594MHz (16-18-18-36)

MSI B450M-A PRO MAX II (MS-7C52) (AM4)

W2261 (1920x1080@60Hz) 2048MB ATI AMD Radeon Vega 8 Graphics (ATI)

931GB Western Digital WDC WD1002FAEX-00Z3A0 (SATA)

931GB Western Digital WDC WD1002FAEX-00Y9A0 (SATA)

931GB Western Digital WDC WD10EADS-00M280 (SATA)

3726GB Seagate ST4000DM004-2CV104 (SATA)

Kingston 128GB M.2 PCIe NVMe 2580 SSD

AMD High Definition Audio Device

My tv is a FFALCON - 65UF3

Is the APU too weak to transcode? I read a bit about that and discovered something called DirectPlay where Jellyfin won't transcode but it will play the file essentially raw as it is. But I couldn't find how to enable this.

Other movies play but they go slow motion like its lagging and seeking (forward or backward) doesn't work properly. The slider moves but the movie still plays at 1.0x speed as if moving the slider does nothing.

I am at a loss as to why this is happening and I don't know how to fix it. So can anyone help me please?

Can you share your ffmpeg log via pastebin?

I think this is it? I clicked on Dashboard and then Logs. Then I saved it as a text file.

Not quite. This is a remux log. In the directory you found this in, there will be files whose file name starts with "FFmpeg.Transcode".

Is this it?

Technically yes, but this ffmpeg file looks fine. You don't have hardware acceleration enabled, but that's fine.

You didn't mention which OS your TV is running. Is it an Android TV?

RE: Playback doesn't work right anymore - Massacher - 2024-10-05

I did have it enabled when I first started using Jellyfin. But I disabled it last night in the hopes that it would improve playback. Is it better to have it enabled?
And yes its an Android TV.

AMF should work as long as you configure it correctly. For the list of codec boxes check

MPEG2
VC1
H264
VP9
HEVC

But don't enable HEVC encoding, "Allow encoding in HEVC format".

On your TV, set the audio output setting in the Jellyfin app to "downmix to stereo". If the issue is what I think it is, this is a bug in the android TV app and setting the audio output to downmix is a workaround.

RE: Playback doesn't work right anymore - Massacher - 2024-10-05

What about HEVC 10bit in the list of codecs?

And I uncheck the box that is labeled Allow encoding in HEVC format?

edit: even with those changes still won't play.
I'm using Brave as the browser. Don't know if that matters?

edit again: I updated my TV's software. First I checked for updates and its already using the latest version. That's the OS software. Then I updated the service software. I'm guessing its the equivalent of Windows services? There was only one thing in there: TTLV I think IIRC. Rebooted the TV and when I played a movie it works now!
Oh one more thing I changed. I have enabled using an external player in Jellyfin settings. I'm using VLC and it works great.
