Assign specific names to additional parts of movie - ragnarok - 2024-10-09

I have a series of video albums ripped from Bluray discs and DVDs that I'm looking to organise into a Jellyfin Movie collection. Many of these video albums have multiple titles ripped into different MKV files. For instance, the Bluray disc of "Live 2012" by Coldplay has three titles ripped into separate files. If I name them as follows, Jellyfin manages to arrange them such that Parts 2 and 3 show up as "Additional Parts" on the movie description page:
- Coldplay - Live 2012 (2012) - Part 1.mkv
- Coldplay - Live 2012 (2012) - Part 2.mkv
- Coldplay - Live 2012 (2012) - Part 3.mkv

While this is great, I would like to be able to give these videos specific names by which I can identify them in Jellyfin. For instance, Part 1 needs to be called "Concert", Part 2 as "Extra: The Scientist", and Part 3 as "Extra: Don't Let It Break Your Heart". Without these names, it is very difficult to browse through all the videos by serial number alone to find the one you're looking for. Is this possible?

If it is not possible to get their specific titles to show up in the Jellyfin interface, is it at least possible to incorporate these names in their file names, while still having Jellyfin identify them as multiple parts of the same movie?

FWIW, I tried to create a Music Video collection instead of a Movie collection and failed spectacularly. Jellyfin actually scrapes metadata for video albums from themoviedb.org (the default movie metadata scraper) pretty well.

The problem is that the "Extra" in the names will probably trigger the "Extras" detection. Unless that is something you may want.

You could have the "Concert" be on its own, without any "part" syntax. Then have what are currently parts 2 and 3 be extras under the concert listing.

Holy cow! I had no idea about this Movie Extras feature. Thanks a lot for pointing it out! It works like a charm for many video albums like Coldplay's "Live 2012", in which what I was calling Part 1 was actually the main concert video, while Parts 2 and 3 were indeed extra featurettes.

I, however, still have a related issue for some other video albums like "Völkerball (2006)" by Rammstein. This contains four main titles (not one main title with other smaller featurettes), which are live performances in Nîmes, Tokyo, London, and Moscow, ripped as separate video files. I have now named the files as:
- Rammstein - Völkerball (2006) - Part 1.mkv
- Rammstein - Völkerball (2006) - Part 2.mkv
- Rammstein - Völkerball (2006) - Part 3.mkv
- Rammstein - Völkerball (2006) - Part 4.mkv

By doing so, Part 1 appears as the main video, while Parts 2, 3, and 4 appear under Additional Parts. This, however, is not ideal. I would like to identify each video by the city name (Nîmes, Tokyo, London, or Moscow) rather than a vague part number. Is it possible to have either:
- The city names appear under each video in the Jellyfin interface; or
- The city names appear in the file names, while Jellyfin still identifies them as multiple parts of the same movie?

What you could do is use the versions syntax here.

Rammstein - Völkerball (2006) - Part 1.mkv  -->  Rammstein - Völkerball (2006) - Nîmes.mkv
Rammstein - Völkerball (2006) - Part 2.mkv  -->  Rammstein - Völkerball (2006) - Tokyo.mkv
Rammstein - Völkerball (2006) - Part 3.mkv  -->  Rammstein - Völkerball (2006) - London.mkv
Rammstein - Völkerball (2006) - Part 4.mkv  -->  Rammstein - Völkerball (2006) - Moscow.mkv

Or whatever order they go in.

This would result in the "versions" syntax being used so you'd get a drop down to select which "version" (city) to play.

Works like a charm! Thank you so much for your assistance with this. Really appreciate it!
