Dolby Vision on LG OLED - kiauro - 2024-10-17

Hi!

I'd like to watch Dolby Vision files on my LG B4. On WebOS, playback is really choppy (DV or not). On 4k firestick, playback works for HDR but not DV.
I've heard it was impossible if the file is in an mkv container?
Am I doing something wrong or do I need to get something like the Nvidia Shield?

Several 4K Firestick models have known issues with Dolby Vision.

A Dolby engineer commented in that github issue saying that the issue lies solely with something Amazon is doing with FireOS since exoplayer supports DV5 and DV8.1. And non-Amazon Android TV devices play the same media without issue.

Both Dolby Vision and HDR10 mkvs both work fine on a Fire TV Stick 4K Max. The problem arises with hybrid DV/HDR where the Firestick will present with a black screen. Kodi has solved this with a setting to force either DV or HDR from the stream. I have it set to DV and not had any issues with the latest Kodi. I'm not sure about how the Fire TV 4K (non max) handles DV though.
