newbie installing Jellyfin on a Synology - Bladefin - 2024-10-27 In the next couple of weeks I will be getting my first NAS a Synology DS423+ but before I commit myself I want to make sure I will able to install and run Jellyfin on it. Has anything changed to make it no function properly on this Synology model ? Will it function like it is on my Windows computer? And is there a video of how to install it, I have seen the how to guide here and it looks a bit daunting so watching a step by step video would be better. I have read that Synology have disabled HWA is that true and is that going to be a issue. Thanks🙂 RE: newbie installing Jellyfin on a Synology - TheDreadPirate - 2024-10-27 The complication with running Jellyfin on a Synology NAS is the older Linux kernel a lot of their models run. Intel has deprecated support for their OpenCL driver for Linux kernel 4.4, which is what Synology uses in many models. OpenCL is required for tone mapping HDR to SDR. IMO, it is better to run Jellyfin on a PC of some kind and just let the NAS be a NAS. RE: newbie installing Jellyfin on a Synology - Bladefin - 2024-10-27 So is that for all NAS makes or just Synology? RE: newbie installing Jellyfin on a Synology - TheDreadPirate - 2024-10-27 Definitely Synology. QNAP is in the same/similar situation. IIRC, so is Asustor. Agreed, or build a nas yourself. You can buy Intel n100 SoC with 6x Sata for about 150 € from ali/amazon. RE: newbie installing Jellyfin on a Synology - Bladefin - 2024-10-28 Well that's left me to some thinking again. Thanks. Will takes days, weeks or months depending on where you start RE: newbie installing Jellyfin on a Synology - mtoss - 2024-10-28 I would disagree with you. I have been running Synology NAS for 5 years. DS 718+. I use it for many things. Store my Calendars, Contacts, Files, Photos, Music and Streaming TV with Jellyfin. Outstanding product, very stable, it just works. Its my home cloud (run DDNS). I dont have to use Apple or Google cloud. Oh, did I tell you I also run Unbound DNS on this? Yes. Many things and its so stable. Both Jellyfin and Unbound DNS run in docker containers. RE: newbie installing Jellyfin on a Synology - tumpy - 2024-11-08 I to Agree with you, Iv'e been running Jellyfin on my DS920+ for years, This Community Moderator is not to technical by posting such nonsence.. Use the official jellyfin docker image, try to tone map an HDR video and tell me how it goes. |
