Sci-Fi Movies and Shows - Bobafett - 2024-10-29

Hi all,

My gf and I are huge sci-fi fans – anything from "outer space" sci-fi to utopian / dystopian stuff and time-travel. Can't wait for 2nd seasons of Severance and Silo to start...
In previous years we stuck to IMDB / Rotten Tomatoes ratings above 75%, but having watched most of it (at least releases from the last 5-10 years), we've lowered the bar.

What are your favourite sci-fi movies and shows? No matter how recent or old... Anything you can recommend, particularly for unique concepts, great cinematography, etc ?

Mine:
Predestination
The Matrix
Alien
Severance
Silo

Have you checked out Dark (2017) on Netflix?  One of my favorites.

I love bad/cult sci-fi and have consumed my fair share. I also like good sci-fi, but the cult stuff is where it's at. I'll share both...

GOOD SERIES:
3 Body Problem
Nightflyers
Devs
Dr. Brain
Fringe (could go under cult as well)
Hello Tomorrow!
The Man in the High Castle
Scavengers Reign (soooo weird, so good)
Station Eleven
Utopia (short miniseries, very good)

CULT SERIES (not necessarily bad):
Battlestar Galactica (1978 )
Brave New World (2020)
Farscape
Future Man
Snowpiercer (movie and show)
RoboCop: Prime Directives
Sliders
Stargate (pick a flavor)
The Stand

GOOD MOVIES:
Battle: Los Angeles
Code 8
Equilibrium
Dredd
Event Horizon
The Platform (Spanish-language, available dubbed)
The Rocketeer (1991)
Sphere (1998 )
The Thing (1982) <--- WATCH THIS
A Wind Named Amnesia (1990) (anime)

CULT MOVIES:
Black Magic-M66 (anime)
The Fly (Jeff Goldblum, what's not to like?)
Pitch Black
Demolition Man (excellent, just watch if you haven't)
Total Recall (1990)
The Running Man
Judge Dredd
Escape from New York/L.A.
The Guyver (low-budget 90's flick w/ Mark Hamill)
Jason X (Jason Voorhees in space...)
Lensman (1984) (anime)
M.D. Geist (1986) (anime)
Mars Attacks!
Metropolis (2001) (anime)
RoboCop (1987)
Roujin Z (1991) (anime)
They Live (1988 )

I have plenty more, anime or not, but I'm sure you've either seen them or you're not quite that far down the ladder yet. If you want more anime series, let me know. Those are kept in a different library...

Most already named.. i throw in a really oldschool-classic tv-show (you might call it "black-mirror grandfather and with bad effects")
-> outer limits (some episodes are hard to watch, but the concept/stories are nice! .. in 4:3 Winking-face )
One fantastic plus of this series: there are a TON of Hollywoodstars in their youths in early roles. So always something to discover Smiling-face
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112111/fullcredits/ <- just look at that list ^^

Also from the Anime-Front: Steins Gate was not named i guess.

just started Stranger Things series from Netflix 2016, very cool series, have you found the 80's easter eggs?
