Can't reset Jellyfin on Synology NAS - cybermousey - 2024-11-05

I screwed up.

The installation of Jellyfin I have on my Synology NAS is the one where you get the packing manually. I did not set mine up inside a docker container. So solutions involving that will not work for me

I got to a point where I was not able to access it even locally via the browser, so in the end I did something I wish I didn't do. I tried to uninstall and reinstall.

Now, it's just not working. It's not giving me the options of a setup wizard it's trying to find and connect to a server that is no longer there.

This is heartbreaking as I set this up for my wife. She loved this, and now after about 3 months of use, it's pretty much the one thing she loves. Due to a small mistake I made and that I have not been able to correct, I now have ruined this for her. And I have no way to even rest this to try and start over.

Any help would be great. This is devastating to me. I don't want to see her so depressed over this. I hate myself so much. It was all working just fine before I made the mistake.

If you want to delete the old data and start over with the package (SynoCommunity Jellyfin package I assume), you're going to need to:
  1. Enable SSH in the control panel
  2. Log into your Synology's NAS using SSH (on another computer, not the NAS itself)
  3. Navigate to "/volume1/@appdata"
  4. Find and delete the Jellyfin package there

Assuming you're on DSM7, what I suggest to do if that's complicated for you is to use the Container Manager app to launch Jellyfin that way.
Since you're dealing with Docker containers, the old data from the package will not affect your new Jellyfin server in the container.

You can checkout my guide on how to launch Jellyfin using Container Manager here: https://forum.jellyfin.org/t-guide-running-jellyfin-in-synology-s-dsm-7-using-docker-compose

Also, relax a bit. Your media files are not lost. You only need to set up Jellyfin again.
