Constant Buffering Outside Home LAN - SandwormSlayer - 2024-12-07 Hi everyone, I've recently been experiencing some really bad buffering when attempting to watch any 4K Remux content from any remote WiFi networks outside of my home LAN. Oddly enough, I don't experience this same issue when accessing this content from my phone's mobile carrier data, indicating that my transcoding setup is working properly. The most recent case of this is at my friends house, where I've attempted to watch a few 4K HDR Remux movies and shows through both an Apple TV 4K 3rd Gen, and an Apple TV 1080p. The former attempts to direct play these films (at least according to the Jellyfin dashboard on my phone), but it's constantly stuttering every few seconds. The 1080p Apple TV is forced to transcode these films, but the same issue still occurs. This leads me to believe that it may not just be a case of not being able to handle high bitrate content, as even the attempts to transcode don't work properly. At home, my network is on an asymmetrical gigabit connection with 1000 Down & 25 Up (not the best upload speeds, but I would think it should be enough for transcoding). At my friends house, they pay for 800 down. Their 4K Apple TV is getting 500 Mbps down on WiFi through a 5 GHz channel, and the 1080p Apple TV is plugged in directly to their router. After running a speed test using Code: speedtest-cli Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve or mitigate this issue? I'd really like to avoid having to download lower quality copies of movies and shows. Server Specs:
RE: Constant Buffering Outside Home LAN - toytown - 2024-12-07 Can you share the transcode logs from Jellyfin when content is being sent outside your network (i.e. friends house) RE: Constant Buffering Outside Home LAN - TheDreadPirate - 2024-12-07 Do you have a bit rate limit set for remote connections? Most 4K remuxes have a bit rate around 70-80Mbps. If your remote bit rate limit isn't set, it is up to the client to detect the speed of the connection and it sometimes gets it wrong. |
