Jellyfin-swiftin Apple TV - Lobo - 2023-09-09

Hello, can i ask You please? I have many gopro’s videos in 5,3K format on Jellyfin server (odroid h3+, debian 12) and:

Jellyfin on windows11, iPhone, Ipad plays them very well. Swiftin plays it not - plays only sound  or some frame with many artefacts - does not matter if is it played on Ipad, iPhone, aplletv

Do You have any idea why please? Or what to try to play them on Apple TV?

Thank You very much

You could try Infuse 7 for Apple tv - you'll find it on the App store

I have this issue with one of my users as well, and as I don't have any Apple products in my ecosystem I can't really do much testing. I've heard that Swiftfin doesn't play nice with reverse proxy, so if you're accessing through a domain name as opposed to an IP address, that might be part of it, but my Apple user hasn't had a chance to try any of the troubleshooting methods I found.

I also read that it may be worth checking to see if there's an option in Swiftfin to change which internal video player the app uses (web player, exoplayer, libVLC, etc) and trying a different one.

There's a bit of discussion in this thread: https://forum.jellyfin.org/t-video-not-playing-on-apple-tv-4k

Good luck, and please let us know if you solve this issue, as it bugs me that my android and roku users have no issue, but my ONE friend with an AppleTV can't watch anything.

Yes, it looks like the similiar issue - swiftfin does not play 5.3K video from gopro (on Ipad/iPhone/aplletv), Jellyfin can play every video, infuse (free version) can play all my gopro’s videos too

I have no proxy, i tried to change options in admin panel in swiftin, but it has no effect

Can i help You with some logs or anything else?

Unfortunately I won't be of much help, I haven't got much expertise with this and haven't found a solution myself. It looks from *my* logs like Jellyfin thinks it's playing everything properly, it's not transcoding, but nothing's happening in swiftfin. Aside from trial-and-error playing around with the admin settings in swiftfin (which i have no knowledge of/access to), I don't have any suggestions for you, just eagerly awaiting a solution like you are.

RE: Jellyfin-swiftin Apple TV - kandykarter - 2023-09-13

I read somewhere that this may be caused by some bug with external subtitles. The files you're trying to play, do they have an external srt file with the same name as the video file? All of mine do.

No, videos from GoPro does not have any subtittles Confused-face. I think the problem is in transcoding - swiftin probably does not “ask” transcoded files from Jellyfin server and then try to play them directly

RE: Jellyfin-swiftin Apple TV - kandykarter - 2023-09-14

Hm, could be. I don't think it's transcoding in my case (I'd be surprised if appleTV can't handle h264 which is what my files are), but who knows? I'll report back if I make any progress.

Here is a sample of my file - You can try it https://gopro.com/v/LR3zvgLp4e1WX
