Just Starting Jellyfin - Can it coexist with Plex? - Mattaton - 2023-09-09 I just installed Jellyfin, mostly to see what I think. Plex has been in action for years. I have all my media set up and named to make Plex happy, and I'm already seeing some issues with Jellyfin being unhappy with the same naming/organization. First issue I've noticed is multiple versions of a movie. For instance, 1080 and 4k versions are shown as one movie in Plex with an option to select the version to play, whereas in Jellyfin, it's shown as two separate movies. With different movie Editions, Plex will show them separately, but with the edition name below the title, like "Extended Edition." Jellyfin just shows the same title twice and there's no direct way to tell which is which without checking the Media Info (or running time in the case of extended editions). So, I guess the question is, can you make both happy without having multiple copies of the movies with different naming schemes? RE: Just Starting Jellyfin - Can it coexist with Plex? - TheDreadPirate - 2023-09-09 Jellyfin wants square brackets [] instead of squiggly brackets {} for things like 1080 vs 4K versions. I think Plex will also work with either. If you are on Linux you could, hypothetically, use symlinks with different names that are more compatible with Jellyfin. RE: Just Starting Jellyfin - Can it coexist with Plex? - jimmyjammy - 2023-09-09 You can find how to group versions here: https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/server/media/movies/ RE: Just Starting Jellyfin - Can it coexist with Plex? - BlimBlamSmashySmash - 2024-03-30 It’s hard to understand why there is such little interest in this topic. It’s a huge obstacle to Jellyfin adoption. I have 5500 films and 1000 TV series with countless episodes, and renaming everything is crazy when it could be supported in one place on the server, rather than changing tens off thousands of files. Some people in my home prefer Plex and some Jellyfin, but Jellyfin isn’t an option except as a backup because it won’t support Plex’s naming convention too. |
