will my current plex media folder system work in Jellyfin? - ChibiDavid - 2024-12-13

Currently in Plex i have many parent movie folders
Movies - French, Movies - Japanese etc etc
And plex reflects this well.

I use a folder called, Movies - Music Concerts

I have a folder called Music Videos

TV series divided by country

File Naming - i have my own system that seems to work well in Plex, I wonder if it will work in Jellyfin?

example -  A Scarred Life (1971) Kizu darake no jinsei [JPN Yakuza D Shigehiro Ozawa 7.2]

More complex example

Certain Killer (1967) Aru koroshi ya [JPN Action Crime A RaizĂ´ Ichikawa D Kazuo Mori 6.8][1080p BR Rx AVCFLAC.2.0][19.5GB]

I personally have little interest in the tech details of the file as i view them on a small screen. I do keep some file info but change it so Blueray becomes Br Remux becomes Rx, WED-DL becomes Web as i have more interest in the movie itself and wish to keep the file name shorter so i can add the info that interests myself.

Usually in my system file folder name is longer and the file name itself is shorter. I remove most . as . i . think . it . is . easier . to . read . without . everywhere.

My file naming system suits myself well will Jellyfin be able to handle it?

Please some advice

Thankyou Chibi

Your movies may work, but tv shows will certainly need to be nested in folders named "season ##" and each episode will also need to have "s##e##".

You will also need to figure out how to mount each folder as Jellyfin explicitly expects the very first folder to be a show folder with the next subfolders being its seasons. Likewise for movies minus the season folders.

You also can't mix and match tv shows and movies. Metadata detection is based on the library type the file is stored in.

Also, if you plan on running Jellyfin over the same media files as Plex at the same time, make sure to disable Jellyfin's ability to store or modify metadata on the media file locations as Jellyfin uses a different structure of files for metadata.
