Disappearing screensaver logos, Android TV 0.18.2 - peanutz - 2024-12-15
Hi - noob here, posting this to see if anyone else is experiencing similar screensaver issues on Android TV (0.18.2). So here's what I've got:
Up until a few days ago (give or take), title logos displayed properly on my Android TV screensaver 100% of the time, and I know because I often leave my screensaver running for hours at a time. The only time a logo would previously be missing from the screensaver is if it was missing from the metadata itself. However, in the last few days I've noticed that logos are randomly disappearing from the screensaver about 30% of the time. I have my screensaver set to rotate backdrops every 30 seconds, so I noticed it very quickly.
There seems to be no rhyme or reason to which screensaver backdrops are now missing their corresponding title logos, as it would occur to content from many different folders and collections. Each time I saw a backdrop with a missing logo I would go and verify that the logo was still present in the metadata, and they all were.
My next steps were to clear the cache, which didn't resolve the issue, and then restart my device (fire stick) which also didn't resolve the issue. I also verified that I was running the latest version of Android TV (0.18.2).
As this seemed to me to be a brand new bug or issue, I decided to test a roll back to version 0.17.9, which immediately fixed the problem. I let my 0.17.9 screensaver run for several hours and not a single title logo was missing. I then re-installed 0.18.2 and the issue started right back up again.
In the following image, the top row is the screensaver running on 0.18.2, and you can see that the title logos are missing from the screensaver for both the movie Field of Dreams and the show Yellowstone. The middle image is Field of Dreams again, this time with the screensaver running on 0.17.9, and now the title logo is displayed properly. And again, I ran the screensaver for several hours on 0.17.9 with no issues. The bottom row is after re-installing 0.18.2, which results in the missing logos problem starting right back up again.
I'm presuming that it's not a config or backend issue since rolling back to 0.17.9 immediately fixes the problem. At this point it's just a mild annoyance, but I'm hesitant to submit a bug report unless someone else can confirm it's not just me. Thanks!

AFAIK, there were no changes to that portion of the ATV's code. On my ATV device I still have logos in the screensaver.
What server version are you running?

I'm running 10.10.1 at the moment. I'm aware this is behind by a couple of minor releases. I'm using an Asustor NAS and have Jellyfin installed via Asustor's "app store," and their server version updates sometimes lag a bit.
The screensaver has been working perfectly since 10.10.1 was released, no issues with it throughout the past six weeks until just a few days ago. I still have logos on my screensaver as well, but what's happening is I'll have 4 or 5 backdrops w/logos, and then 1 or 2 without, then with, then without again. Every time I see a missing logo I go and check the metadata and they are all 100% still present in the metadata.
Whenever a logo is or isn't missing in the screensaver for a specific movie or show, it stays that way - in other words, a movie with a missing logo will be missing the logo every time the same movie reappears again in the screensaver rotation, and vice versa. The issue isn't randomly hopping around from movie to movie, it's the same movies every time, but only 30% or so seem to be affected. I just can't figure out why the 0.18.2 screensaver is pulling logos for some movies, but not all.
Like I said, rolling back to 0.17.9 immediately fixes the problem - the same movies that were missing logos in the 0.18.2 screensaver all of a sudden start displaying their logos again and the logo display rate is 100%. Then rolling forward to 0.18.2 causes those exact same movies to stop displaying logos again and I'd estimate the screensaver logo display rate drops to about 70%.
Maybe eventually I'll figure out what commonality the movies affected might share that's causing their screensaver logos to not appear in 0.18.2, but as of now it's a minor mystery.
