Android App for Movies and TV - pixel24 - 2024-12-16

Hi everyone,
I currently use Jellyfin exclusively for listening to music. Now, I want to start watching movies and TV as well. I’ve digitized the movies myself, and they are in HEVC/H.265 format. I’ve added IPTV as an M3U tuner, which works. In Jellyfin, I’ve set up a Quadro P620 with the latest NVIDIA driver. I know it’s not the best card, but it should be sufficient for now, I think.
I’ve enabled hardware acceleration in Jellyfin, and the movies run well on the desktop client under Linux.
For my music on Jellyfin, I use Finamp (Beta) on my Android. Besides the stock app for movies and TV, is there any good Android app that you would recommend?

with best

Check out Findroid.

I use the native jellyfin android app only for monitoring, configuration and administration.
For viewing my content, be it movies, anime or series, I use Findroid, it's quite simple, user friendly and not very consuming, besides being well supported by the jellyfin community.

I'm currently testing Findroid, and it seems to work well. Plus, it's open-source! :-) Now, I'm only missing an app to use the IPTV feature from the Jellyfin server.

Streamyfin works well for my needs. It might be what you are looking for.

Why do you prefer Findroid to the native app?

I installed both Findroid and Streamyfin on my test device. Both of them work. I'll test a bit to see if and where there are differences.

Streamyfin doesn't have a German user interface, or at least I couldn't find a setting for it. However, that's not a big issue.

What neither app seems to support is IPTV from the Jellyfin server. Or did I miss something?

That is expected. Findroid is not meant as a replacement for the official Android app. It does not support IPTV. It is meant to provide more robust codec and container support for videos. And the additional option of using MPV as the playback engine.
