Network bandwith used when streaming - falconbt - 2024-12-18

Hello everyone, I am new here and this is my first post, so here goes...

I am unsure if this is expected, I noticed that when I stream with Jellyfin, the server does about 7-8MB/s upload (tx) and 15-18MB download (rx). Is that expected? that the client sends 2x the data back to the server? Stopping the stream brings the tx/rx to about 200kb/s average so it's not coming from other devices. I only stream to 1 device at a time.

I am using the Android apps on both TV and phone and I get the same result. My movies sometimes stutter now and then, not all of them just some, and others sometimes "glitch" getting the audio out of sync from the video. The desync is fixed if I back out of the video and continue playing, but nothing can fix it when it stutters. The stuttering is for big files mostly 40GB+ (4k movies with HDR/DoVi) I have been trying to figure out if I can somehow improve the experience of watching. The server is currently using WIFI because the ethernet would sometimes completely fail and disconnect from the network. The server is on the same shelf as the router, connected to 5GHz WIFI. TV is connected to the main router through a secondary router (range extender) through ethernet.  Given the movies are played without any modification when watching on the TV transcoding is not used and the CPU does not go too high.

My server is 10.10.3 On Docker
Tv app jellyfin-androidtv 0.18.2 release

Is your media on the same server or on a network share?

Yes, the server is a Mini PC with 3 external drives connected to it, of which 2 are on USB 3 and one is on USB 2. The drive where the big movies are is 18 TB HDD in an enclosure with a dedicated power supply.
