Other devices arent able to connect - PolarClimates - 2024-12-30

Hello! I decided to set up Jellyfin and the server side works fine; but I can't connect from any devices. I've let the firewall through, restarted the server, I'm on private Ethernet; i genuinely don't know what the problem is.

Windows 10

I have a Google Nest system for Wi-Fi for my other devices; could that be the problem?

Is your router setup so that each wireless device is isolated? "AP Isolation" is a common setting name? Or are they on separate VLANs?

RE: Other devices arent able to connect - PolarClimates - 2024-12-30

I'm not sure. I know that the original router, the Google Nest, the PC, and my phone are all on the same first two numbers in the IP address (192.168 )

The first two octets are not enough. The third octet would also need to be the same. Even then, some routers go one step further and allow you to isolate WIFI clients from the rest of the network. Only allowing Internet access.

Oh. Interesting. Could I manually assign the servers local IP to have the same third octet?

You shouldn't have to. If the router is putting clients in different subnets, you should change the router config so it stops doing that.

RE: Other devices arent able to connect - PolarClimates - 2024-12-30

They're on the same subnet.

My computer, connected to Ethernet: 192.168.0.100 prefix length 24
My phone, connected to the router the ethernet comes from: 192.168.1.204 prefix length 24
My phone, connected to the Google Nest wifi extender service: 192.168.86.38 prefix length 24

Neither wifi can see the jellyfin

However! My dad's computer, also on Ethernet, can see the jellyfin.

Dad's computer: 192.168.0.105

Wait, they are; their prefixes are just the same. How do i fix the problem of different subnets?

I've never used Google Nest Wifi, so I can't give specific directions. Somewhere there is a setting to segregate wireless devices from wired devices.

Based on this post, it sounds like the Mesh repeater is acting as its own DHCP? Instead of letting just the main router handling addressing?
