Jellyfin crashes during music library scan, known issues - JANONYMOUS - 2025-01-02 Hi, I've been trying to scan my music library for days now, however, it causes Jellyfin to crash every time and I'm at a loss. Are there any know issues like special characters, Chinese or Cyrillic, or anything else I should be aware of? Could certain audio file formats be to blame? Some albums may contain bonus material such as videos. Can Jellyfin process M4Vs in music albums? Any suspicion will help me narrow it down. Thanks much. RE: Jellyfin crashes during music library scan, known issues - TheDreadPirate - 2025-01-02 How is Jellyfin installed? Docker? Can you share your full jellyfin logs via pastebin? RE: Jellyfin crashes during music library scan, known issues - JANONYMOUS - 2025-01-02 No it's a simple local install on my computer, no Docker, no NAS, just a regular machine with an external HD. I'm still in the early testing phase figuring everything out and see if it works for me. RE: Jellyfin crashes during music library scan, known issues - JANONYMOUS - 2025-01-02 In the meantime I have removed Chinese, Japanese, and Cyrillic as well as music videos to no prevail. However, what I did notice is that Jellyfin seems to scan and load all albums and songs (without having finished scanning all the titles and durations yet)—but artists and album artists never make it past ~60ish. I actually have to restart the computer every time in order to open/access Jellyfin again. RE: Jellyfin crashes during music library scan, known issues - TheDreadPirate - 2025-01-02 I still need to see your Jellyfin logs. RE: Jellyfin crashes during music library scan, known issues - JANONYMOUS - 2025-01-02 I will look into that once the current scanning process is done (probably never). I have tweaked some more files and settings so I'm gonna give this one more chance and let it run for a day or so. It is currently unresponsive. RE: Jellyfin crashes during music library scan, known issues - JANONYMOUS - 2025-01-03 I think the issue might actually be related to how iTunes and Jellyfin handle compilations and/or various artists and album artists. I also found this by chance: https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin/issues/10052 In iTunes, compilation albums don't have an album artist. I'd like to try to set one and check again. When doing a new library scan I noticed there were leftovers from the previous library: favorites, genres and the likes. I would like to start over from scratch. How do I clear the cache, delete stats and settings, basically reset the entire music library? I thought that removing it and adding a new one would be enough but it doesn't look that way. Thanks! RE: Jellyfin crashes during music library scan, known issues - JANONYMOUS - 2025-01-03 I should mention I'm on a Mac. The UI didn't really help. I could do it manually. I believe it should be in the Application Support folder? Library/Application Support/jellyfin RE: Jellyfin crashes during music library scan, known issues - JANONYMOUS - 2025-01-03 OK so I did a reinstall from scratch to eliminate any other potential issues whatsoever. The first thing I did was scan the music library and it crashed immediately. Please let me know what log files you need exactly and where to find them. Thanks. RE: Jellyfin crashes during music library scan, known issues - JANONYMOUS - 2025-01-03 I assume it's this one: Library/Application Support/jellyfin/log I've checked again and again but it doesn't show any errors really. It just crashes for no apparent reason. I suspect it has something to do with the folder and file structure. After a restart Jellyfin resumes scanning the library at some point, analyzing durations, etc. After a while, however, it crashes again. I would have to restart the computer in order to access Jellyfin again. Otherwise it's just stuck and won't do anything. At this point I'm out of ideas. The only thing left to do is wait, wait until Jellyfin has scanned the entire library. This will take days, if not weeks, and dozens of restarts. |
