Playback Failed - cybermousey - 2025-01-03

I'll keep it short. Like many. From one day to the next, I made no changes that I could be aware of on my system when it was working. Last video I ran in Jellyfin was last night. Less then 24 hours I go to play a video. (tried one of the many that worked before including the one from last night), and now I'm getting:

Using the Jellyfin app on Windows I get
Playback Failed.
Playback failed with error "loading failed". Retry with transcode? (Note this may hang the player.)

And using the any browser, Firefox returns:
Playback Error.
Playback failed due to a fatal player error.

Clicking retry just pops up the same error over and over. I restarted my PC. I restarted the Jellyfin server. Not sure what to do without possibley causing damange.

Windows 11 PC
Synology NAS running Jellyfin 10.10.3
(Let me know anything else I could provide to help you, help me with this. TY)

Many thanks for all you do

OMG. I think I know what the problem is . . . . (I'll go a little into length and you tell me if this could have been the casue). I know I said I didn't change anything on my system. And for the most part I didn't. But if you are saying that the issue is that Jellyfin can't find the file/directoy, it leaves me with one question.

Is Jellyfin case sensative.

I did make one small change. I change the directory names of the 4 main folders I have for holding media from lower to upper case. So from "Movies" to "MOVIES" and etc. Is Jellyfin case sensative to this? Becasue if so, that would explain why I can't watch anything. . . .

Would the fix just be as easy and rescanning my media? Or should I rename everything back to the same case it was?

RE: Playback Failed - bitmap - 2025-01-03

Yeah, that sounds like -- at least part of -- the issue. You can try changing the library folders (Dashboard > Libraries) to the lower-case versions and rescanning, though it may cause a full rescan and metadata pull. If you don't really care about case, change it back and rescan.

RE: Playback Failed - cybermousey - 2025-01-03

Thank you. I reverted back to having them in the original Cases I started with. I had no idea Jellyfin was case sensative. (Being a PC tech guy I always keep in the back of my mind that could be a thing , but I really didn't think it would have been it for this app).

Many thanks (to both) for helping me with this. Means the world to me and my girl.
