My NAS has Jellyfin installed.  It is connected by ethernet cable to my TP-link router, and from there by ethernet cable to my LG TV.  The router is also cabled to my mac.  I can access the NAS and all its files and settings from my mac.  Its working fine as external storage to the mac.

However, when I try to persuade the LGTV Jellyfin app to access the NAS, it asks me for the IP.  Fine, I can see the NAS in the router as http://192.168.x.xxx.  However, when I put that into the LGTV app, it fails. If I use 192.168.x.xx it tries, then times out. I add :8096 and it fails. I've looked at many posts and tried many of them, but no luck.

I tried a direct ethernet connection to the TV (the NAS has two ethernet outlets), not through the router) with the same result.

Please - what am I doing wrong or missing?

I’m interested in seeing if this setup is possible.
I’d like to connect my NAS directly to my LG TV using an Ethernet cable, since the TV is currently on a low-speed WiFi connection and I don’t have a way to connect it directly to my router.
Would running a Jellyfin server directly on the NAS be the solution?

Dodgie, quick question. On your mac, if you open a web browser and put http://192.168.x.xxx:8096 in the URL field, do you get the Jellyfin web interface and a login screen?

If you don't, there is probably something wrong on the NAS.  Check firewall settings and the like.

If you do, it is on the early stages waiting for you to complete the setup?  I do not believe that Jellyfin can be setup through apps like the LG TV app.
