The A380 mentioned above should have exhausted 6GB VRAM instead of running out of TFLOPS.

TFLOPS is enough after it exceeds a certain number. More will not bring FPS improvement.
This usually affects tone-mapping perf on iGPU (i.e. UHD71x/73x/75x with only <0.5 FP32 TFLOPS) but not on mainstream dGPUs.

I started dipping my toes into Jellyfin after the latest Plex privacy changes. I haven't really been doing GPU transcoding with Plex but I do have two separate servers, one with 720/1080p SDR content, and another with higher quality 4K SDR and 4K HDR content.

I did some tweaking of my Ubuntu 22.04 server and got QSV transcoding to work on my now very old Skylake i5 CPU, and it works surprisingly well, but it can't do 10 bit HDR. This got me reading up on the Intel Arc GPUs and they seem to do very well.

I found a few posts on /r/Jellyfin about running an Arc GPU in a system with no Resizable BAR (the hardware in my 4K server can't do this, but the SD server can) and that even managed to perform quite well.

I'm considering getting an A750 with 8 GB of RAM, but for $60 more I can get an A770 with 16 GB of RAM. I am pretty sure the lack of Resizable BAR will be a limitation before the RAM is, but, in the future I could replace the hardware of the 4K server with the one from the SD server and merge them, so it might be worth getting the A770.

Anyone have experiences with either of these without ReBAR? This is the Reddit post of someone doing it 9 months ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/jellyfin/commen...t/j8rvp3h/

My understanding is that ReBAR is only important for gaming and professional workloads. And even then, only makes a difference SOMETIMES.

Thanks. Yeah this benchmark test reports 25% in performance drop when playing games, but it seems like for transcoding it's GPU RAM that determines how much it can do.

I don't think I've seen reports of transcodes on an A770 with 16 GB of memory vs an A750 with 8 GB. Can 16 GB do twice as many transcodes/tone maps? Thinking of 4K HEVC 10 bit HDR to 1080p or 720p SDR.

I was able to get twelve 4K HDR (DV7.6) tone mapped transcodes going simultaneously on my A380. With transcode throttling I could probably juggle a couple more.

That's pretty good. I realized the A750 or A770 GPUs won't fit in my current tower, so an A380 might be worth getting
