On certain 4k videos the transcoding appears to stop after a few seconds of playing. there is no error associated. The video just closes and returns to main jellyfin screen. I am trying to play on a 4k roku tv using the rokiu jellyfin app. i am running a ryzen 5600g with apu, 16GB ram.

    Below is the transcode log.

The video is Dolby Vision Profile 7.6. It is transcoding to HEVC with an SDR color space but it is retaining the DV7.6 side channel data. I am betting that this is causing the issue, the DV side channel data, since only bluray player support the 7.6 profile.

As a workaround, try turning off "Allow encoding in HEVC format" in Dashboard > Playback on the server. I think it should discard the DV 7.6 side channel if it is transcoded to H264.

Ok tried that didn't work. I was wondering if it could be that the hard drives are too slow. The Video File size is 140GB. and after trying to play 3-4 times the movie will begin to play with occasional stutters. the hard drives are a Seagate exos x20 20 tb enterprise, and a Seagate exos x16 16tb enterprise. those drives are dedicated to jellyfin only. I also run the rest of the system on a Western Digital 1TB WD Green SN350 NVMe drive.

The bit rate of the video is much lower than the throughput of your HDD.  That is definitely not the problem.

Do you have tone mapping enabled?  I have some DV 7.6 content and also a Roku 4K Ultra (4800X).  When I played it the video was transcoded to HEVC without the DV 7.6 side channel.

Try disable hevc in your Roku settings. The transcoding does not stop from the log but your client seems to have problem decoding that.

ok so i tried all suggestions turning off tone mapping and disabling HVEC on the roku. I also tried playing a different video were i was having the same issue as before trying the suggestions. The result was the same video doesn't start. Here is the log file for that video.[attachment=2987][attachment=2987][attachment=2987][attachment=2987][attachment=2987]

Can you try also playing back the video via a browser, see if we can rule out it being a server issue? I have the exact same files and its playing back perfect here via browser/android device (i don't have a roku to try) whilst transcoding.

so i tried with browser and it transcodes and skips. however when i play via windows jellyfin standalone media player app it direct plays smooth as butter. i also used my android jellyfin app and it also plays smooth

the issue seems to be limited to roku app and my web browser which is google chrome.
